Catch 22 = buy Pitt or no Flagg
Darthdrew13 made a very true and sobering statement “for those who say they'd pay $250 for a Resolute Flagg, just buy the Pitt for $100 to support the line so you can get a Flagg.” You, I, and some even within Hasbro may not like it. Yet its the Catch 22 situation we are in. What to do? Aside from the simplistic, for versus against, back and forth, in-fighting – how’s about some creative suggestions or well-thought out solutions? Again, your in a Catch 22 situation, what to do? On the point of the Flagg Hasbro Q&A - Round 2 Cool Toy Review: With the relative success of the BMF, AT-TE, the soon to be released Turbo Tank, and other large vehicles from Star Wars what do we have to do to show that there is a market for a Resolute USS FLAGG? We can beg if we have to or even start a petition! Hasbro: Nobody wants a new FLAGG more than the team on the G.I. Joe brand. Right now, we all have to sit tight, wait for the movie to be huge, and then we can think about a FLAGG for the next generation of kids. Last edited by 12345; 05-20-2009 at 02:27 PM.. |

Make the Flagg a 'Flag Points' purchase; 'X' number of flag points (or UPCs from the movie figures) and then 'X' amount of dollars plus shipping and you can get a Flagg.
That way collectors HAVE to buy movie figures, movie line does well for Hasbro, which equals money for them, which equals more figures, which equals more stuff to buy, etc. And we get a Flagg |

I wouldn't pay $250 for a FLAGG even if pay $100 for a PITT. A FLAGG, the same size as before, would be more then $250 if a Turbo Tank and PITT are around $100 and those are alot smaller then the FLAGG. The Millenium Falcon wasn't anywhere near FLAGG size and was $100+.
FLAGG would probably be around $350 or so. And no thanks. I don't have room for something that size and don't have the funds to spend on something like that. $100-$150 is tops for what I'd spend. I'd rather see more things like the RHINO and that size of playset/vehicle. Now can do a section of the FLAGG and I'd be happy with that, doesn't have to be the whole thing. Part of the flight deck and the control tower with the spaces underneath the flight deck. Could do that for $100-$250 range depending on size and detail.

I'd love to see Flag Points back. Loved collecting those and buying stuff with 'em as a kid.

Don't buy the Pit if you don't want it. Despite the misrepresentation of what Hasbro's said both here and elsewhere, the future of the G.I. Joe line is not really in our hands. Every single one of us could buy every single movie line item, and it would not make the ROC line as successful as Hasbro wants it to be.
It's in the hands of the kids and their parents to determine how big (in every sense of the word) the G.I. Joe brand becomes for the forseeable future. If the movie and the movie toy line fails to reach them or entice them into buying...then the best we can hope for is a return to the limited shelf-space and spotty distribution of the 25A line (and no particularly large vehicles). At worst, the entire G.I. Joe brand goes on "hiatus" for a while...or gets retooled into something that has no connection to the RAH mythos at all. The franchise needs new fans to avoid dying a slow, inevitable death. The collectors are enough to keep it on "life support" but not enough to get it out of the "intensive care unit." Even keeping the line "purely classic" leads to a slow bleed-off of adult collectors the further they get into the "neon years." Last edited by Jmacq1; 05-20-2009 at 09:41 AM.. |

For me its not really an issue. I am a vintage guy. The only 25th stuff I have bought for myself has been the stuff that easily integrates into my vintage collection such as the MASS device and all the reissued vehicles. I have a lot of reissued vehicles
As far as a new FLAGG is concerned, I have an original and it would really have to be something special for me to be interested in it. A straight reissue would get my wallet out but a new one? Maybe. Again, depends on how well it integrated with the vintage stuff. I will say I am leaning toward buying the new Night Raven (we'll see) but that is really the only thing from the movie line that has me even a little interested at this point. Hopefully the Snow Cat for the movie line will be in OG colors. Then I will probably buy five or six. As for the PIT, which I think looks pretty cool before it folds out into that weird mess, I will not buy it. Holds zero interest for me. I would rather put $100 toward a NRMNT MCC from '87.

I've said it before, the line is stagnant and will someday die (there's only a limited amount of classic stuff to redo) unless there's new blood brought in and the RoC line is that attempt at getting new blood. And to those that say "but they could have done the same with the Modern Era/25th line and used that". It's been on the shelves for how long now? 2 years? And hasn't gained in popularity or brand recognition. For whatever reason, maybe it's marketing (or lack of something to connect the toys to the new market: kids), or whatever, the 25th/Modern just doesn't resonate with the new market like it needs to.

If they made a new version where the flight deck was the bottom so it was just a sheet of plastic with a control tower sticking up from there then it would be an affordable alternative that would still give us the playset/dio setting we are lookig for. If the tower was detachable and the flight deck came in sections then the box would be much smaller and storage would be no biggie.

If tankers were all to buy PITs, it may boost the sell-through enough to make it deemed a success - I bet Hasbro doesn't have huge expectations for such a huge ticket item. Their cash cow is the figures, then class A and B vehicles - as pricepoint goes up, they should expect sales to go down.
In a similar argument, if we want to see more Night Raven sized vehicles(skystriker anyone?), then we better buy night ravens. |
