Flint. I loved the figure as well as his brash cockiness & leadership in the Sunbow cartoon.
Me and my friends would put all our Joes in a pile and each take turns "picking" one until the pile was empty. Flint was always my first pick. Funny that I remember my friends hated Wild Bill for whatever reason and he was always one of the last picked.

Yes. This one was a game changer. When he debuted he was so dominant in the Sunbow cartoon. Sarge & Serpentor fought many backyard battles in 86.

So many GI JOE memories. Dig this thread!
My favorite was and still is Shipwreck. Not sure if it's because I'm from San Diego, or if it's because he was such a smart ass...I just identified with him. I vividly remember how I got him. My "rich" grandparents were visiting from LA. We were not rich at all, middle class, but my Dads foreign parents were well off. They took us into KMART and let my brother and I pick one GI JOE figure...we just got into GI JOE at this point....so we didn't really have any. I got BBQ and my brother got Scrap Iron. When we got to the car, we stared at the back of the card at all the other figures in amazement! This got my brother and I talking, and together we hatched a plan. I was going to ask my grandparents to buy us ALL of the GI JOE figures. Haha. Somehow, this eight year old kid got the nerve to ask my grandpa as he drove my Dads station wagon, "Grandpa, will you buy us ALL the figures on the back of this card?" I held my breath. "Sure" he said casually. My brother and and I couldn't believe it, we were in disbelief. Ha! The next day, while my Dad was at work....my grandfather tried to give my Mom the money for the GI JOEs. She refused. She was incredibly, and understandably irritated with us for even asking! Still though, My Grandfather insisted. She held her ground with her refusal. My brother and I must have annoyed her with our pleading because they both went into another room to discuss the matter and locked us out. We had our ears glue to the door....for what seemed like hours. Finally, they came out. My Mom had a defeated look on her face. In her hand she had a $100 bill. We were elated!!! Even back then I knew $100 wasn't enough to get ALL the GI JOEs....but I sure could get a lot with that much money into my shameless little hands! Haha However, my Mom had different plans. Later that night, she took us to TRU alright....but my brother and I were only allowed to spend half of our $50 each on GI JOEs. The remaining $25 had to be spent on educational toys. ha! Served us right. I ended up picking out Shipwreck, Quick Kick and a Snowcat that night. My brother got the Stinger and the Water Mocassin. We used the rest of the money to buy some dumb wood carving sets or puzzles, I don't remember. We were happy with our Joes, and couldnt wait to play with them! Until Mom thwarted that enthusiasm with her next punishment: We couldn't open them for atleast a month....and had to wait a week between each one. Haha. Many lessons were learned that day.....Most important: Don't piss off Mom. Haha Last edited by Wyo; 06-20-2016 at 01:53 AM.. |

Too close to call... I know you said one, but Rip-Cord and Flint were both so cool, I couldn't say one or the other... And then there were characters like Gung-Ho, Airborne, Duke, Snake-Eyes, Mainframe, Beach Head, Hit & Run, Recondo, Mutt & Junkyard, Spirit, Roadblock, Stalker, Clutch, and the list goes on and on...
And then there are the Cobras, in no particular order: Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, Major Bludd, Stormy, Firefly, Zartan and the Dreadnoks, Vipers, Night-Vipers, Alley-Vipers, Big Boa (yeah, I liked him...), Raptor (...and him!), and this list continues as well... So many great characters/figures! -Todd

The first Joe figure I got was Stalker. I thought he was a cool black dude. My older brother got Grunt. So yeah Stalker was my favorite being my First Joe back in the day. I think out of the Cobra Commanders that came out I love the hooded one sense you were only able to get him though the mail. I don't recall if he was ever sold in stores.

The first Joe I ever got was a Cobra and an ASP. It was a present and really cool.
My favorite though was either Dial Tone or Lady Jaye. my parents always thought it was weird that I played with Jaye, but that never stopped me. |
