Hey all,
So I have been really getting into vintage restoration, A good buddy gave me a ton of vehicles that I am slowly working on & repairing, there is def a cost factor in buying replacement parts and cobra stickers! but its so worth it. I have this Badger ..now I was not into joe when this thing came out but I kinda wanna restore it. Its complete it just really needs a fresh set of stickers to bring it back to life. BUt the color is way out there, should I paint this thing!? I think I would keep the blue but paint the neon green a traditional HAVOC green instead if I can get that color. What yall think? is that worth it? or should I leave the integrity of this 90s truck like thing LOL

Do whatever is going to make you happiest. I think you already know what you want to do, so do it! If you don't like the color, will you still like the final, restored vehicle? Or if you paint it, will you regret having compromised its "authenticity?"
Personally, I would recolor it. I hated the color palettes used in the early 90's and that's what got me to stop buying Joes as a kid. That vehicle's mold is pretty cool and putting a better color on it would make it way nicer. OR, buy a second body/hull for it and paint one while keeping the other original. Best of both worlds.

thanks man,
do you or anyone recommend gluing missles? I see these toys as straight display pieces now and having missles lost suxs! especially like on the SLAM this is simply for the sake of keeping them complete

I've never glued missiles on, but maybe you could straddle the fence by using rubber cement to attach the missiles? That should be reversible, I would think.

I glue missiles, it makes a lot of the stuff easier and more fun to play with. You mentioned the Havoc, it look DOPE AS HELL with all the orange stuff sprayed matte black ... I did that to two of mine and it is killer. sometimes really small details like the SLAM missiles I will leave dayglo as a very subtle reminder of the period. My SLAM Missiles didn't take to glue BTW and still fall off, that thing is cursed.

Devilfish are killer with glued missiles, 30th Sky strikers absolutely require it. I did all my 25th firebats, 25th SHARCS and Night Specters... it also discourages me from ever selling them because THIS collection is meant to be my keep forever one.
And I just looked up the Badger, that is pretty loud dude, like was said above, if you are asking about it then you already know what you want, I would want that in a good Joe color... the HAVOC and classic Vamp, Sky Hawk, Slam, Coastal Defender and Armadillo are sort of all a similar color that you could do. BUT another color that is very classic and always seemed to come back is the Hasta dark OD green like the FLAK, MOBAT, Dragonfly, Whale, APC, LAW, SLAM ( lower part is Hasta, upper part is the HAVOC green) all the way up to the Night Specter which is s slightly darker hue of it.... I feel like Hasta would look best on the Badger.

A tiny bit of sticky tack adhesive putty should hold the missiles in place.

keepin on keepin on.... it looks like there is a turncoat version of this thing called the Crimson Cruiser that was part of the Street fighter line and came with M Bison, so there is precedent for a palate swap on it..
if anyone knows how to summon him I wouldn't make a decision on this until Blood brigade weighs in cause dat bo is the guru on all vehicle chop shopin it seems

I think the best repaints are team swaps. Paint it Cobra blue, slap some cobra stickers on it, put a motor viper as the driver.

Seriously, if it were me, I'd re-paint it. Since it's a Joe vehicle I'd go for the Olive drab color. And be careful with the glue. I've used superglue for some of my missiles and the white haze spread all around the missiles. Last edited by sbartek1974; 05-19-2016 at 06:03 PM.. |
