New GI Joe collector, started modern ~ fell in love with the vintage ARAH. Bought a couple and some has rusted screw, rust mark on paints, chipped paints, broken fingers, broken crotch, etc.
Didn't find a restoration thread (except for the sticky replacement screw thread) so I figured I'll start one. Few Qs to start: 1. is it possible to replace joint pins? to tighten the joints as well 2. paint restoration, any tips? was thinking of using airbrush and glossy coat to restore those shiny plastic feel. 3. some has crack on arms too, what's the best way to fix these cracks? thanks

Here are a couple of links that I find to be helpful. I used to have a link of some guys at a convention showing how to replace the rivets in the elbows, but I can't seem to find it, or its since been deleted. I'll post if I find it.
https://toyfixer.com/2009/03/10/how-...n-elbow-rivet/ http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ch-rivets.html Also check out Xerofalls restoration thread for vehicles. It has helped me out more than anything. A lot of info is on there that will answer questions you didn't even know you had. |

Looks like this question is getting much activity here. To that end I will say the place to go with these types of questions is joecustoms.com. Great group of people over there who know how to do all sorts of things like this.

No paint needed. If you look at the Night Raven and Sky Striker in my thread they look shiny and new from that same method. A lot of it has to do with the texture of the toy. The APC also has a shiny surface, but not all of the vehicles do, nor should they. But after a few minuets the plastic seems to absorb the oil and restore the shine, but then you have to get that oil off of there. Again please feel free to PM me with any questions.
