The problem is that most listings are Buy-it-Now, which really means Buy-it-Never because sellers set the prices unrealistically high, causing the items to sit on ebay for months or years, and also causing themselves to lose out on revenue. It doesn't work for buyers or sellers. I really think they should ban fixed-price except for bulk items. Get stuff moving through the system quickly again, and let both buyers and sellers get want they want.
I got most of my collection from 2000-2005 when almost all listings were auctions and it was actually fun to use ebay. It wasn't just getting toys; it was strategizing about how much to bid and when. And then there was the suspense of not knowing whether you won until the final moment, and the exhilaration or disappointment that followed. And knowing you were by default paying only market value was also a huge draw. Many times I purchased many items from one seller in a single day because I knew I was paying market rates. Today the place is a wasteland. I use BIN all the time for buying and selling. For selling, I look at completed listings to gauge where the market is, and then I look at the BINs and typically list mine as the cheapest one. If people follow this strategy, it will bring prices down...just look at the Joecon 2015 vehicles. If they don't follow that strategy, then their items will be overpriced and will sit. No biggie or loss for you. When buying, I sometimes like BIN if the price is fair and I don't have to wait for an auction to end. Don't say the system or Ebay is broke because of a few sellers making bad decisions with their pricing. Maybe they don't have any pressure to sell. I've listed a few things that way...I didn't need to sell it, but if somebody wanted to pay stupid money for it then they can take it from me. |

I agree with cobraofthewoods
Ebay has turned into a retail outlet for price fixers and specialty shops, not a auction space. What I notice is that even if the price is fair, the premium for shipping will be outrageous and Ive shipped stuff I know what it costs, they are banking a little on gotta have it types or impulse buyers being willing to soak that cost up. It makes certain items impossible to get for a reasonable or fair deal. And before any armchair economist brings up Adam Smith or the laffer curve, this theories ( as in not reality) are modeled using assumptions ( if you actually READ the theories) just two of which (Re Smith) are 1- Infinite suppliers to choose from, swap between and 2- a perfectly informed infinite supply of customer. no way reality. Ive been looking for a Wolverine for a VERY long time, am stubborn and insist I can have one ( minus tow cable I am in reality here) for around 25 shipped.... Its been years. Every oen that lists wthat is around the price I want will be about that again in shipping, well, those guys can have fun sitting on them or the guys willing to pay that shit can have em.
