Hi I'm new to this forum. recently discovered black major customs after being a lightweight ARAH collector for awhile. They're such cool reproductions!
So I just picked up 3 of the build it yourself GID snow serpent kits and the seller told me there's a special tool I need to install the rivets. Maybe not even a standard rivet setting tool? He didn't have any information about it beyond that. Now I've replaced O rings before but this is a whole new ball game! Does anyone have any idea what tool I need for this specific project? I see this has been covered some before but I'm looking for an up to date consensus on the best tool for this job. Just setting the rivets not removing anything. I'd love to figure it out before I start experimenting and break something or do a bad job!! any guidance in the right direction or tips on best practices to put kits together would be greatly appreciated! thank all of you so much for your time and invaluable knowledge! |

I don't know if there is any rivet tool you can buy commercially for this. If you just get a normal one from the hardware store, chances are it will be too strong for the plastic.
All the rivet guns I have seen are for riveting metal parts. Basically, the rivet material is softer than what you are riveting together, but for the Joes, the rivets are metal and the parts being connected are plastic, so the rivet gun will actually destroy the plastic before the rivet gets connected. Maybe these rivets are softer than the plastic, and if it is, then the challenge will be to find a rivet gun small enough.

Dang that's discouraging. the seller mentioned something about custom made tools people were using but didn't tell me anything about where to find further info.
Hope someone can lead me in the right direction! |

You don't want a riveting gun man, google "hammer rivet tool" and dig around for a smaller guage. Also, TAP, don't slam that hammer- you don't need a lot of pressure.
And welcome aboard! |

flash77: Yeah thank you I saw that thread! So that EZ-rivet tool would work for this? crazy it's 35 bucks. Guess I'm in too deep now, and I'll just have to grab one
sataninjaku: thank you! i appreciate that, have you used this method before and had a good outcome? i'll research a hammer rivet tool with a small gauge |

I too bought one of those kits Black Major is selling. Personally, I find it to be bullshit and irresponsible that it doesn't mention anywhere in the description that you need a rivet tool to complete the figure.
I ended up using hot glue on the arms. I'm not going to be doing a ton of posing with the figure anyway, so I guess I'm fine with it. Never again though.

Damn man that's definitely what I'm not trying to do!
think I'm gonna try the ez-rivet tool first and see what happens. found one for 15 bucks if there's anybody out there that successfully completed one of these figure kits let us know! |
