Pack stuff like you would if you were shipping it, especially vehicles and playsets, because you are.
Shakey surface streets, potholes, and road hazards are all going to be transmitted to everything you're hauling. I've gotten stuck in parking lots and one side streets with a trailer, where I had to drive over curbs, islands and bushes. YMMV. Also, I've found most people helping you move aren't to careful, and don't differentiate between fragile items and indestructible ones. |

I'm moving this summer as well...been through the routine several times now.
1) I take pictures of all my displays and shelves so I can easily remember how I had everything last 2) I pack the figures up first. Like others said, I use an individual bag (I like the ones from Meijers in the jewelry/crafts section). I then place them in a large gallon bag by year group. 3) I use the large bins for the vehicles. I strip the vehicles of missiles, guns, and easily removed/broken pieces and then place those in a quart size back for each vehicle. Then I wrap the vehicles up in packing paper (you can get large boxes of it from U-haul for reasonable price). 4) I have a special boxes I made for my Defiant and Terrordrome, basically made from combining larger U-Haul boxes and adding places for the items to sit without breaking. Flagg can be broken down to fit into one large bin with the exception of the 2 largest deck plates. 5) I don't let movers touch any of my collectible items. Good luck! |

Wait whaaaaattttt? I have had my figures stored for the last 2-ish years. Does it cause serious damage? I wouldn't mind upgrading my baggies.

There are also some acid free bags that can be found at hobby lobby and michaels. Wal mart may have some in their craft section as well.. just read the label and it should tell you if they are or not. Just depends on how much you want to spend and how long you intend for them to be in the bags. All of mine are only in the bags long enough to transport to where ever I am living, then get put back on display. Although due to space some of the figures have had to stay in the bags for awhile and those I make sure go into the acid free bags.

The acid in baggies (stored for a long time) can leave a slimy residue on the figures, and possibly discolor white figures over time. As xero said--if it is just for a week or two it shouldn't matter, but over time it does affect the plastic depending on the type of plastic..it is harsher on the newer figs than vintage ones, but it affects both. IIRC.

Okay! Thanks for letting me know, I'm going to upgrade this weekend. Thankfully all my clones are in a display case.
