85 for first place, 84 for second, and 86 for third. Honorable mentions for 87, 88 and 90.

And regarding Sunbow--notice in season 1 (1985) there are some episodes that only feature characters/designs introduced in the 1984 mini-series or earlier (i.g. Flint, Lady Jaye, visor SE, Shipwreck--no Alpine, Quick Kick, Footloose and co.) and only feature the older music, not the new additions that appeared in 1985?
So I would imagine work had to be done on season 1 before Hasbro had finalized all the new figures and before the mini-series was written to introduce them. It also appears from a writing perspective, the mini-series was not done by the same team that season 1 was. So the season 1 guys may not have known what was in the mini-series until it was nearer to completion. I'd like to see a list of which episodes those are though. For some reason I never noticed this was done before. But now this week I heard about it twice for the first times. |

Digging out an old thread? The poll never expired.
1984. 1985 was better in some ways, but too much stuff, really, 1985 became the year that no average kid could hope to "collect 'em all". |

It's 1986 for me. You have the original Viper and the Original B.A.T., arguably the two most common/popular army builders, and both of those figures have had so many updated versions over the years due to their popularity. Then there is my all time favorite, Beach Head. One of the most underrated Joes of all time, IceBerg. Sgt Slaughter & Serpentor with their respective vehicles. Not too mention Low Lite, Dial Tone, General Hawk, and one of my favorite dreadnoks Monkey Wrench. '86 is by far my favorite (speaking only in terms of figures, not vehicles)

Character development and diversity really hit with 1985. Comic and cartoon were going strong. Loved 83-84 and 86-87 as well... but 85 really is my favorite.

It's a toss up between 1985 & 1990 for me, 85 had some of the most iconic stuff, but 1990 had some awesome vehicles.

For me its a toss up between 85 & 86. Those are the two years I got the bulk of my collection. K-Mart and Flag Points helped me fill in a few of the older ones...

In Italy the first wave was the 1985 figures. I love this year. But the best characters that i liked in Sunbow cartoons were from 1984 (Spirit, Duke, Baroness, Firefly....) In conclusion my Joe universe is made from 1983 figures, the first swivel arm toys, to 1985 figures, the first italian wave
