After passing on it as a youth (despite my love of all things space-related), I bought a sealed Defiant back in 1999 for the now-bargain price of $600. It is a cherished piece of my collection.

I got sniped on evil bay about 4 years ago. It ended up selling for a mere $500....my how times have changed. I either have to win the lottery or find one at an estate sale. I am almost done with a deal with my brother in law for his complete Flagg. Been after him for 10 years and he finally gave in. I am getting the family discount for $400 but I wish he had a Defiant too.

I find this statement mildly disturbing.

I usually try to buy things opened, but unused/unassembled, as I have been burned too.
Bought a MISB Crusader that was partially yellowed when I opened it. |

The reason was that the European ones were actually newer than the vintage US ones and the stickers were still useable. Many of the old American ones, the stickers are not useable anymore. I also prefer opened box but sealed contents so I can see the condition and whether anything's missing.

I'm with the majority. It's worth what you are willing to pay for it. To me, tous are meant to be handled...displayed, played with. Paying that much for a toy you are leaving in a box is like buying a Lamborghini to park in your garage and never drive. Plus, with today's sheisters out there, how do you know it's even a Defiant in the box? Re packers and con artists do this stuff for a living. You may have a $2800 box of trash.

I talked to a guy on eBay who had an AFA graded one. He could only ship it through a freight service. The toy and the weight of the case came in at a couple of hundred pounds or something like that.

i think it is more of a quality thing. It seems to be a lot harder to find the defiant MLC than it is the flagg. The doors got very brittle over time and tend to break easily as well as some of the other larger parts. Not to mention that it had like twice the small hard to find peices than the Flagg does.

It's the coolest toy ever IMO, but personally I would never come close to spending that kind of money on one.
