If this has been talked about, I'm sorry. What Joe was the guy that would guard captured cobra troops? Drove or sat shot gun in all vehicles? Or would be on the assault team on a Cobra hideout? I would always use Airborn as that guy, jack of all trades. Could be on air...land..and sea...who was yours?

Mine was Ripcord. As a kid, not really knowing better I liked that Ripcord's uniform looked like what my uncle wore when he had drill once a month. So Ripcord was always the most realistic looking Joe to me as a kid next to Footloose and Dusty. The parachute pack he came with is what made him my jack of all trades. I couldn't always take a vehicle places so I would take Ripcord since he didn't need a vehicle to travel. In my mind he just parachuted in to where the action was. My Ripcord went every where, three or four other states. To my Grand Parents, Great Grand Parents, Aunts and Uncles houses. Even to Church one time lol. I loved Ripcord, he could go anywhere and do anything.

Breaker for me, since he never came with a gun I always figured he needed the help and he was the guy who made sure everyone was in contact. He also sat at the computer console at the Joe HQ a lot.
He was the guy riding shotgun in the VAMP with Clutch back in the day. Waaaaaay back in the day, Christ I'm old.

Yeah I'm not sure how best to answer this one. I had my favorite Joes that were in every mission. But once my Straight arm Joes got too wiggly they were relegated to certain duty stations and tended to be the first to die.
Breaker at HQ computer console. Rock n Roll manned the FLAK. Zap was the APC driver Airborne sat in the Dragonfly I guess my Tan Grunt was the guy. Mostly forgettable but aside from the Whirlwind he got moved around for the menial tasks.

I didn't have a "utility" Joe, but I did have a core group that did most things. Recondo, Dusty, Leatherneck, Tunnel Rat, and Repeater
Dial tone always had comms Lifeline and Stretcher were my field medics with Doc at HQ or riding the Tomahawk Flint and Falcon were my field officers Torpedo, Wetsuit, Cutter, Shipwreck, and Topside had naval operations Keel Haul was the commanding officer of the battle group and would take flight assignments in a Skystriker or a Conquest. Law always had gate or security duty Last edited by Everett Colby; 12-19-2014 at 12:10 AM.. |

I had a utility guy for each wave. Yes Breaker maned the console at the HQ, Rock N Roll the RAM, but;
Stalker ran all of my covert ops in '82, Snake Eyes was my infiltrator/demolitions guy while Grunt filled any hole I needed filled. Airborne (I love Airborne and Torpedo but Torpedo only came in a s.c.u.b.a. suit so he only ran ops in the pool) deepened my bench in '83 and replaced out Grunt. Grunt retired to guard duty back at the base manning one of the guns on the wall. Ripcord took up the same job as utility guy in '84 and Airborne was only manning the second seat in the Dragonfly after that, while Recondo began leading ops through the back yard weeds from his bivouac outpost. Flint headed up all of my rescue, black ops, and infiltration missions from '85 on. Dusty depend the bench with Grunt, Airborne, and Ripcord as my utility guy but took the lead on any desert op. Ripcord remained active on missions though but I now had Footloose to run point. Beachhead replaced Stalker in '86 and V2 SE replaced a very loose V1 Snake Eyes in '85. Stalker retired to hovering over Breaker at the HQ console, guiding filed ops with his experience. Breaker stayed at the HQ but now had Dialtone in the field. Falcon and Tunnel Rat added nicely with Beachhead, SE v2, and Flint to make a really bad ass covert team squad driven around by Crankcase as they hung off the sides of the AWE Striker. Good times!

Zap with his broken thumbs did a lot of odd jobs like piloting a second Dragonfly or riding in a tank.
Grunt did a lot of meaningless labor too.
