I was looking for a thread on this but haven't seen one. I was wondering if anyone has had any intel on whether the Cobra Soldier and Officer were mixed up on initial release because officers normally have pistols and you would expect the better weapon. A basic grunt weapon would be the AK-47. The helmet with the additional marking however would be more likely to be the officer helmet however.
When they switched them around with the Python Trooper/Officers I wonder if this was a bit telling of the original mix-up. I haven't seen this addressed yet that I recall so I was curious. |

I have thought this before, and would agree.

Are you talking the 50th anniversary 2 pack which was listed (back when they announced the 50th toys) that was listed but not shown?

I think they just made a poor choice for their weapons. The officer clearly has a helmet crest. Their art work matches the product. I don't know how you can call it a mix up. It looks to have been fully intentional.

Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/pythonofficer.shtml as for why they changed them around… who knows. http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/pythontrooper.shtml http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/pythontrooper.shtml i like the way the figures are originally, but i think the weapons should have been swapped.

I've thought about it too, the SVD seems a more expensive rifle to give a grunt. The AK is more common and more of an every man rifle. As far as what they did with Python Patrol, I have no idea.

I agree that the weapons should be traded... AK for the trooper, dragunov sniper rifle for the officer! But then you'd have to swap arms too because the trooper has the two silver sniper rounds on his upper left arm.
The emblem on the officer's helmet definitely is befitting of an officer, and anyone can carry a pistol, IMO. |

But yeah I've often thought it was odd they gave the Trooper the fancy sniper rifle and the officer the common grunt weapon, it doesn't even have a scope. I like to think that Cobra wants it's soldiers to conserve ammo and be more accurate, using the semi-auto SVD kind of like old school M1 Garand or M-14 and the officer has the AK to serve as sort of a light machine gun roll, sort of like the old BAR. |

I agree that the round on the Cobra soldier's arms look more like flares than sniper rounds-- they wouldn't fit in the magazine of the rifle he carries. I think your theory-- that the semi-automatic Dragunov was a ammo-conserving weapon for the line troops-- is a good explanation. Even so, I would have liked to see the Cobra soldier with an assault rifle. The AK-47 would have been a good choice.

I always thought those rounds were flares for the flare gun on his web gear.

They (Dragunov sniper rifles) actually require different, better, more expensive ammo than the AK or they become just an auto-rifle like an AK. They can take the cheap ammo though, which would be good for obvious reasons. Swapping the weapons would have been the ideal choice I think. The basic Cobra was also possibly meant to more of an elite troop at first rather than one of the blue-shirted masses he became. Last edited by CDR Hood; 05-29-2014 at 08:03 AM.. |
