I recently made a big purchase in the complete Night Force set mint on card. Unfortunately about half have the slightest cracked elbows :-( how does this effect grading?

It affects it negatively. They are not mint so If they were labeled mint I would ask for my money back or a discount

Have a look at the AFA scales. Based on your description, and assuming the card and bubble are completely mint without any flaws, I think you are still looking at a rating of 75, maybe 80, as figures with slight stress flaws seem to fall under this category. If the card has issues, it may even dip you down into the bronze level.

That would drive me insane. I know that it takes a miracle to find loose '88-'90 with no cracked elbows due to the cheaper elbow plastic that Hasbro started using, but carded figures with cracked elbows is frightening. I suppose it's an indicator that they weren't stored correctly temperature-wise.

Night Force figures in particular, notoriously obtain cracked elbows while still on the card. I would suspect like mentioned above it has something to do with the plastic. I have bought many AFA NF figures with cracked elbows as well and plenty of MOC examples. It is always greatly disappointing.

2 of the cards have slightly yellowed bubbles so they probably were exposed to sunlight although the cards aren't faided. I've decided not to get the set graded, they're still a nice set and I know i'm lucky to have them carded but it is very frustrating.

I'll probably start a new thread but I'm going to sell the tunnel rat and psyche out 2 pack. Card is good but the bubble is yellowed slightly, unfortunately the psyche out is a right off! He's gone yellow on his front :-( what's price would be fair? Should I open it and sell the tunnel rat and full card back separately? Any help appreciated :-)

I'm really over the AFA. Over time it is a FACT that literally every vintage G.I. Joe figure is going to experience at least one, if not all of these problems: cracked elbow, discoloration, broken O-Ring. and there is nothing that can be done about it. You can keep them in a pitch black ice chamber surrounded by armed guards and it's still gonna happen. I understand the point of grading is to get a mint specimen, but the reality is if you get something graded the day it's released in mint condition, and never touch it again 30 years later there's a damn good chance it won't be in the same condition.

Cracked elbows do not bring the figure down to 75 or even 80 in most cases. I've had several figures AFA graded with cracks in the elbows and they still fetched an 85. I've NEVER gotten less than an 85 figure grade on one I've sent in and I'd say I've had 15+ graded with a cracked elbow.
