I wanted to know what my fellow tankers thought of certain things so I am starting a weekly forum I call "What do you think of ?". Each week I will pick a vehicle, figure, sub-team, etc. and state my opinion. I ask anyone with something to say to join in.
To start off with I chose the 1990 vehicle "The General". My real feelings on this are its TOO BIG and its UGLY, especially with all the yellow. I might like it more if these pieces were black or something. I love the hidden cannon and the pop out missile stations. The cannon on mine only shot about a foot and a half though. The locust helicopter is cool but I like the colors on the solo release of this vehicle. As for the driver, Major Storm, the figure isn't bad but the gold accessories are horrid. All in all I don't like this vehicle. I really don't like any of the rolling headquarters. So now its your turn Hisstankers. What do you think of The General? |

I never had the General as a kid, so it was up to EBay to get me one as an adult. Since I'm *ahem* "cost conscious" it took me a while to find one in my price range. I ended up buying one for $70 shipped, and other than the little yellow antennas it's complete and in good shape so I'm happy with that aspect of it.
As far as the toy itself, it's a beast and I can imagine that as a kid there would have been a TON of "play value" to it with all the hidden compartments, moving parts, and guns....not to mention the hidden cannon, launch base, Locust chopper, etc. As an adult, it's a space hog and it's difficult to move without damaging it....but it's also a really impressive looking machine. If I could change one thing, it would be to get rid of the louvered canopy for the main cockpit, but otherwise, I really like the General.

Many of those features are the very reason I wanted it as a kid. I still haven't gotten it, but I did see it at a show a few years back. Looks big.

You should provide links to some images just in case folks aren't familiar with the toy. I had no idea it existed until I started watching the DIC series on DVD last Summer.

It's huge! It's as big as the Original HQ. I personally love it. But Again I love all the mobile HQ playsets. I wanted one for so long and then I decided OK I'll drop the $60-70.
Well as luck would have it, I was the only one who bid so I won it for $9.99!!!! and since it was on ebay at a local consignment shop (Pure Luck) I paid no shipping!!! It was only missing one wheel. So I love it even more. Of Course I have no where to put it most of the time. Major Storm I like too. Gold I don't mind. Gold is one thing but he's not Neon at all. |

I doubt I would have gotten it as a kid and really have no desire for it now (as a remake or to try to track it down). It's just too... something (a few things)... overdone, overblown, over the top. Kinda like the new PIT, I guess. Pass.
