Hey, I know these kinds of threads are pretty commonplace on here but I've come up against this problem too now. I'm moving out on my own (well, with a roommate) and will have far less space for both storage and display. My parents have said that I can store a lot of my stuff that I won't have room for without issue (my dad had all his stuff tossed when he moved out as a young man. I know he won't do that to me) but that leaves the question of what to take, what to leave and whether to sell anything.
Now, I've been faced with the reality of growing up for some time now. I have a decent job and should be able to have a good couple hundred dollars spending money every month without much issue. The lingering question is whether I need all of it. There are certainly some large items I could never let go of because of the memories involved (my Flagg, Terror Drome, etc) that will have to stay behind. It's the smaller vehicles and the figures that cause me more problems. I've had my HAVOC for years, don't really care for it and it's not complete so thus wouldn't sell for much anyway. Do I keep or give it away for $10? I have more than one of several earlier figures like Flint, CC, Destro, etc. Should I pick the one in the best condition and sell the others? Sorry for the long rant, but the more I consider it the more I realize how much this hobby means to me. Kind of silly for a 20-odd year old man to be having such trouble letting go of possessions, isn't it? Anyway, I suppose what I'm looking for is advice on how those of you who can't a) afford and/or b) display a complete collection picks and chooses what to keep and when it's enough. |

Only you can determine what to keep and when enough is enough.
My suggestion would be to get rid of the stuff that have no connection to first and see where you're at after that.

If you can store it in your bedroom at your parents house, that is what I did until I bought a home. Now I have a Joe room with everything displayed. You may regret selling stuff in a couple years.

I have sold and re-purchased collection pieces so many times that I have lost count. Their are very few things I find to be irreplaceable. I have a Superman figure and a Captain America figure from my childhood that I would never get rid of, but anything else is just plastic.
I have found that I much rather finding the toys than I do having the toys, so a lot of stuff tends to not stay around long. |

There are a lot of bits and pieces of a lot of things for various reasons. I've bought a lot of loose figures and vehicles over the years, and not all of them were complete. Completing everything would take a lot of time and cost a ton of money, especially for things I really liked as a kid, but don't necessarily hold much love for now.
Another issue is that there are some things I love but simply don't need all the ones I've got. '85 Barbecue? Love the figure, definitely keeping one. Don't know if I need #2-4 and all the extra accessories. Space is a legitimate issue. If I kept everything packed away, I could pretty easily fill 2 18L Rubbermaid tubs with figures and probably another 4 or 5 with vehicles. Then there are things like the Mamba which is too long and the Flagg, Terror Drome, etc. |

Keep the best one of each figure and vehicle. Leave them all at your parents until you have your own place. Less is more.
