Sharp drop in my ARAH collecting after the summer I turned 16 and took driver's ed. I had to go on YoJoe to see what figures I bought, and 1991 line I only bought 5 figures including red goggles Snake Eyes and Crimson Guard Immortal. Everything else to me was just..."nah..."
1992 the year I graduated high school I didn't buy any at all. I think I wanted to decorate a shelf I had in college so went out and got a G2 Starscream. I did go back and pick up my very last ARAH figures as well: Battle Corps Duke and Cobra Commander - which at the time I thought were the best representations of those two characters ever put out by ARAH. The Ninja force Snake Eyes and Scarlett, not so much. Instant buyer's regret on those two. So early 1993 was the last for me. |

1987 was the last year that I was excited for. I liked pretty much all the figures that year. When '88 rolled around I remember looking all over for a Hit & Run figure, but the rest of that year was awful. I can't recall buying any more figures in a store after that. I did hunt down some of the later figures on ebay though, like Shipwreck v2 and the Battle Corps Cobra Commander.

My parents starting buying them for me in 1985 when I was 4 years old. I had a few figures and vehicles but it wasn't until 1989 that I got really into G.I. Joe. 1993 was the year I really started to lose interest, and I only bought 2 figures in 1994.

I stopped buying in 1991. I stopped being a "completist" in 1989. I didn't like the direction of the line, in large part because the cartoon was terrible and they no longer printed all the available figures for the year on the back of the card. In later years through '94, I would find a lot of new Joes that helped me be confident in my decision, and on occasion, one wouldn't. I almost got back in, in 1997, but I was put off by the difference between the card art version of characters and the mold used.

I distinctly remember not seeing the great figures from '87 or so onwards... it wasn't that I had lost interest so much as I couldn't find the ones I wanted. One fateful trip to a local hobby store netted me both Storm Shadow and Ninja Snake Eyes. I never saw either again, and never saw most of the other figures that would have interested me from then on.
Once all the neon and Eco-Warriors and Cobra-La came out I really hated them. I also really didn't like when the characters I knew and loved "changed outfits". So the new Stalker, Roadblock, BAT, etc bothered me as a child. The funny thing is, now as an adult I actually LOVE the neon and wackier concepts. They are kind of like "lost Joes" to me... things I never had as a kid that are fascinating to me. I'm much less concerned about realism now. Now Eco-Warriors and Cobra-La are some of my absolute favorites, and I would kill for modern versions of them. I am also obsessed with the '91 BAT now and really want an ME version of it. PLEASE HASBRO MAKE THIS FIGURE AND MAKE IT GREAT! |

But back to topic. My purchases waned in '86 and all together disappeared in '87.

for me it was when the stores in Greece stopped bringing joes... around 1997 or earlier... the last thing I bought was a mudbuster. I kept looking for them but with very limited success...
