Funny story! Coue weeks ago, I got a VERY yellow vintage stormy with great paint and the tightest joints ever on an old joe, counting brand new ones! In the absense of real peroxide, I thought I'd try to soak him in household stuff for a week! In my clumsy hustle to disassemble him for this doomed experiment, I broke off his brittle wiener, despite my success in avoiding this from when I was 8 until now. After week, he was yellow, crotchless, and sitting in nasty brownish water. I think the fluid attacked some of the screw rust left on the platic, but that's it. Yay, science! I am glad to hear the good stuff may be easier to locate than I thought. Congrats!

For larger items, you may want to give this method a whirl. It's basically the same thing, just in gel form.

I have an extra USS Flagg that has yellowed over the years.
Do you think this method would help to restore the yellowed plastic? |
