Hello, I'm new here...since I just recently started collecting the new 25th line late last year...I decided to hook up with an online collecting community
anyway, I've been really entertained about everyones discussions bout their first joes, favorite or least favorite vehicles etc...just wanted to add to the discussion.... I know there are a lot of people who never stopped collecting Joes...but for those who did...like me, what year was the last year for you? do you remember the last joe you bought? For me it was 1988...this was the last wave I collected extensively, and the last joe I bought I think was Repeater. Why I stopped? I guess it was a natural progression, I realized it wasn't AS fun for me ...I was playing less and less with my toys and well all my friends stopped as well...anyway, that was it for me...until 10 years later! ha ha ha after fighting the urge to start collecting again, I finally caved when they produced my favorite all time character...Airborne! and I haven't looked back since... |

1985. I was 13 and visitng family members in another state, I bought the Tomax/Xamot pack and my tuncle looked at and said "your too old for toys". Righ then and there was my last toy purchase. Until 1995 when Star Wars came back and I haven't stopped buying toys since then, eventhough I'm 36 now.

'97 when I was 12 years old. I was too old to play with children's toys. Little did I know, I would begin to collect them again at age 23.

88-89 - high school, i couldn't afford em yet on my own and my folks were done buying em for holidays for me. It was more of a forced stop. I started back up in '97 when i was in college and had my own money. I kick my self for missing some good larger vehicles in 88, by 89 and on things started to go downhill so ... Still wish i just kept it going but alas. I haven't stopped buying since, and now at the Con I'm trying to back fill some of the ones i missed.

1989- Because of girls and I got way into DJ'n and buying records. Last guys I bought were Rock & Roll and Snake Eyes mostly because they were finally a new Rock & Roll and Snake Eyes. So aside from that I think I technically stopped in late 1987 / early 1988.

For me, it was a war of attrition. After 1986, I found myself wanting / buying less and less. GI Joe was originally a slightly futuristic mobile strike force team. But as time progressed, I felt it went a little too far with the sci-fi angle, further undercut by Hasbro's greed. I went after what I thought was the cream of the crop each year, like Shockwave and Muskrat or Gen. Flagg and Topside, but even at the age of 12, I thought Hasbro was "cheating" by repainting previous molds and re-releasing them. I couldn't readily believe that Cobra had an X-30 Conquest, which was based off the unconventional and impractical X-29, and then "pythonize" it. I would have much rather had a new MiG-31 look-a-like. I felt that if Hasbro had matured the line to match the originally intended target consumers, GI Joe would have fared much better. But I digress. The last year I collected anything before the 25th line (aside from the TRU exclusives) was 1991.

I thought this thread was another returned from the grave of lost threads... resurrected like the Phoenix.
It's not... just another one with the same name. I shall answer again: 1990 I discovered boobs. Now that I have regular access to a (FANTASTIC) pair, I dove back in. |
