Dan, hi! Cool that you have the Rubiplas Short-Fuze!
But to my eye, the Rubiplas Short-Fuze looks quite different from the Estrela Short-Fuze... Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say they visually look the same? Or am I comparing the wrong versions? Here are some pics of the Short-Fuze versions I am aware of: Then I thought that perhaps you were referring to the early version Falcon Piloto (with Short-Fuze/Zap body and Zap head) - but I figured I was wrong there, too - because there is no Rubiplas version of that figure - and the Estrela and Plastirama versions - to me - look quite different from each other - I love a mystery :-) and I love hunting down variations - I woud be very grateful for any info you can provide. Can you post pictures of your figures? I would love to see them. Always facinated by what's out there! And anyone else, too! Thanks! Aire Last edited by airedevon; 01-01-2011 at 11:29 PM.. |

Hi Aire! I couldnt resist not to post here. Are these photos sneek peeks of the International guide book that you are working on? Nicely done! Very detailed and organised and also very rare.
Hope to see the different variations of Manleh too! |

Deaco, hi!
Thanks for the kind comment - but no, these are not photos for the book. Dan's post had got me thinking about the differences and similarities among the straight-arm Short-Fuzes so I just went upstairs and quickly shot some pics on the floor (with a flash --not good -- sorry!) But yes, a lot of the pictures I am doing for the book focus on comparison shots! I don't know why, but I love that! :-) Last edited by airedevon; 01-07-2011 at 08:00 PM.. |

Aire......that is a very cool picture of the Short Fuse variations from all the other countries! I'm still very interested in those Mexican vehicle pack in figures! Thanks again for posting this picture. I never knew how dark the Venezuelan figures were compared to Brazil..

Drew, no problem! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah, the Mexican driver figures are a lot of fun - they add a bit of whimsy to straight-arm figure collecting :-) And Drew, thanks for posting pictures of your Brazilian figures in front of their cardbacks! What a cool look that is! (especially with their accessories!!!) Awesome collection! And great catalog! I don't know if I have seen that one before. I really like it! What's on the other side? ******Everything that Aire posts********
OK, this kind of thing is why I am interested in International Joes. EVERY country has done something different to Short Fuze. With all of the coolness Aire posted, do you realize that we have only seen a pic of the Short Fuzes from the Western Hemisphere? There are many more possible variations from countries like UK, Japan, India, Egypt, Germany, France, Holland, and more! Since I can't afford to collect these figures myself, I'll take what I can get here. Who cares about the flash! The pics are way better than any others I've seen and you get 6 countries represented in 1 pic! Honestly, that ranks better than 7 Flaggs in a driveway in my book! I love seeing what each country changed when they received the mold. It's also interesting to see what kind of mold degradation happens as you scan each figure. I'm sure some of the countries saw a quick picture or description of what colors to use and then they had to guess at color matching it which could be the cause of so many color changes. It's also weird that the Venezuelan Short Fuze came with a dark green version of Doc's helmet. I wonder what other Joes from Venezuela had alternate helmets, especially the US 1982 figures. EDIT: Am I wrong? Is that Blowtorch's helmet actually? That helps us understand when the figure may have been released!

OK....I finally got to get into the toy room and pull out my Brazil/Venezuela Short Fuze figures. There is definitely a difference in the shade of green on the uniform when you look at them side by side. The uniform on the Brazil one is a lighter shade of green. On the Rubiplas one, the skin tone is much paler (especially the hands) and the brown on the boots has a more olive tint to them, while the Brazil one has very pink skin tones and plain brown boots. Also, the Estrela logo on the back is crystal clear on the Brazil one while it's been 99.5% removed on the Rubiplas one....nothing more than a faint impression and a couple bumps.
Alarmingly though, I think my Rubiplas Short Fuze looks closer to the one from Mexico on your picture. I know many Mexican figures ended up with the remainder of the Estrela logo on their backs as well, which doesn't make me feel any better. Are there any small distinguishing characteristics that would allow me to tell for sure that what I have is indeed a Rubiplas Short Fuze and not one from Mexico or Argentina? The guy I bought this from was the same guy who sold me my Argen 7 (all of them except Mortal) so when he said it was Rubiplas, I didn't do any due diligence....I would hate to hear that I made a mistake.....

hey Volleydan, based on Aire's pics... are the rivets painted on your 'Rubiplas' Short Fuze? If they are painted, it looks like that could possibly confirm it is Mexican instead.

OK, now it's my turn to post my Intl figures. I know there are only a few and the Brazil figures all have missing thumbs (or fingers), but it's my humble little collection and I have Airedevon to thank for all of them.
Ar Puro (Airtight) - Brazil Gatilho (Airborne) - Brazil Urzor (Repeater) - Brazil Red Shadow - UK Baron Ironblood - UK Kraken - UK Black Major - UK Q Force Aqua Trooper - UK Space Force Pilot - UK Z Force Sapper - UK Blades (Tripwire) - UK Help me get more! Wanna trade? I'd love to get all 4 Forca Fera (Brazil) figs complete some day. That would be my first task. Then a complete UK Stalker is next along with TF Tunnel Rat, Blizzard and Outback. From India, I wanna start with Skydiver (Crazylegs) or Wild Weasel. From Argentina, the Argen 7 are dream pieces, but TNT and Back Stop would be cool too. As for vehicles, I'd like to get a Canadian Tiger Sting, Brazil WHALE, and Japanese Skystriker. Post your wants too!
