Was just wondering, who here uses 25th anniversary vehicles in their vintage collection? For instance, the AWE Striker seems to be the spitting image of the 1985 version (aside from peg holes) so I think I'm going to use it in my growing vintage collection instead of trying to track down an original. Ditto the Stinger and Vamp.
Thoughts? Differences? Anecdotes? |

I got the Target Crimson HISS, since it's way more affordable than the original. However I got the Retailation Moccasin (whatever it's called) and plan on repainting it. It's a totally new mold though, and I'm not sure if I like it or not.

The AWE Striker has one more difference I remember off the top of my head - the top of the rollbar/cage thing, whatever it's called. The green is slightly different too, but only slightly.
I don't mind mixing and matching.

Yeah, I guess that's where I differentiate. New molds like the Sting Raider go with the modern era figures. But it seems to me the bulk of the vehicles they released in the 25th were straight up vintage, with only the peg holes retooled. I've never gotten a clear answer on what was/wasn't changed. The peg holes do represent a problem for some of the vehicles that really need them if you want to have multiple figures on them, but something like the Conquest doesn't matter as much.
Right now, I'm thinking of the 25th stuff I own, this will go in the vintage display: Vamp Hiss Tanks Conquest Armadillo Fang Ram Serpentor's Air Chariot Sharc Stinger Flak Obviously, foot and back pegs present an issue on these, but beyond those, I don't really see a difference beside occasional aesthetics (painted seats and removable gear on the Vamp, etc.), at least not to merit the cost of tracking down nice, complete vintage samples. Am I wrong? Jury is still out on whether or not to use the PoC Wolf Hound, but only because of the swirled plastic. Otherwise, it seems exactly like the original (with a very nice missile launcher). Ghost Hawk and Water Moccasin will go with the modern figures and take their place as true updates and not re-releases. Last edited by ero; 12-13-2012 at 08:50 PM.. |

I'd heard the green was different, same as on the MOBAT. Those are things that don't bother me. I'm not a total purist. Less so on the swirl in the Wolf Hound and to some extent, the paint apps on the Vamp. But I find I'm less and less willing to accept crammed modern figures in ARAH-size vehicles. It's really made me go back and accept vintage as vintage and modern as modern. I believe it's the same as the 25th and RoC Sting Raiders. Do you have either? I think it's a really beautiful mold and a nice update for the new figures. I mean, these are bigger figures. They need bigger vehicles. |

While an not at all a fan of the 25th figure style, I do concede that the 25th vehicles are usually an improvement over the vintage ones. Peg holes aside, many of them have really nice upgrades. The VAMP has better tires and the gun cables, the Sky Hawk is stronger and has a number of extra details, and so on. And if nothing else, they are newer and cleaner.

But isn't the 25th Sky/Ghost Hawk a new mold? Don't have an original, but I thought it was a completely new sculpt. Last edited by ero; 12-13-2012 at 09:11 PM.. |

The 25th Vamp and Stinger are very different from their vintage molds, they are bigger, bulkier and much more detailed.
