Star Wars character designs went through alot of changes from initial conception to what was actually put on screen and in toy form. I'm fairly sure that GI Joe did the same thing. I mean, I'm sure the Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, ect. that we got as toys started off in other forms. A couple years ago, Star Wars fans got the Ralph McQuarie Action Figure line as a subset of 30th Anniversary. I was wondering if Hasbro has ever considered doing anything like this with GI Joe. Wouldn't it be neat to see the original drawings of our favorite Joes in Plastic.

It would be cool! Maybe for Joes 30th anniversary?

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. Of course I have never saw what the concepts look like.

Interesting thought, though.

I recall seeing the initial Larry Hama sketched O13 concepts somewhere.
The resulting figures weren't really TOO different from the concept sketches, as I recall. |

The biggest difference between the Star Wars stuff and the Joe stuff seems to be that while Lucas was careful to keep tabs on most of the original concept art for Star Wars, much of the Joe concept art was left in the possession of the individual artists and has eventually ended up in the possession of private collectors. In fact, there is a small and very competitive group of Joe collectors who pretty much only focus on purchasing pre-production Joe items like artwork, prototype figures, vehicle castings, etc.
Because so much of the Joe art has been "lost" by Hasbro, it might be a bit more difficult to produce a line similar to the McQuarrie stuff they did for Star Wars. I'm sure they could scrape a few things together, but what would they pick? Some would like to see the proposed 1995 stuff, others would like to finally see what Rocky would have looked like as a Joe. Others would simply like to see an early version of the figure eventually known as Snake Eyes. All in all, it's a cool concept, but I don't know that it would appeal to a large enough portion of the Joe collecting community. While Star Wars collectors have pretty much shown that they will buy anything with a SW logo on it, Joe collectors are notoriously picky by comparison.

After seeing the slides from Rudat's presentation from last year's JOECON, I thought this same thing, especially the SNAKE armor and some of the other vehicle designs I've seen in the past. It would rock!

I saw a concept drawing of Roadblock once. He looked pretty much the same, except his name was Bubba.
