Has anyone seen a major difference in o-ring quality from vendor to vendor? I've bought from one or two different online vendors that advertise here (always a positive experience), but the o-rings only seem to last a year or so (without play) before they become very loose or broken or degrade. It this the the nature of the o-ring produced these days, or are some better than others? Any insight into this would be welcome.

To be honest, i have no clue. I havnt had any problems with o-rings after they have been replaced. I normally buy them off ebay, idk the sellers name but he always has like 100 o-rings for 6 bucks or something like that.

I think that many of the o-rings found on eBay and Joe collecting websites are just a tad thicker than the originals used by Hasbro.
For the most part I haven't had a problem with them, but they seem to be an issue when used with older Joes like the ones from 82-84. These are the Joes with the swivel heads which only move side to side and also have cylinder shaped shoulder posts instead of the later cone shaped ones. For these Joes I went to Home Depot or Lowes and purchased thinner o-rings, but I'm at work right now so I forget the size. If I remember to look for them when I get home I will post the size. In the long run it's pretty much a trial and error thing. Many o-ring sizes could work, but you have to find the ones that work best for you.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not as worried about the size of o-ring as I think I've figured that out. Just trying to determine the longest lasting one I can buy :-)
Oh, and Scoop, ironically I only collect Joe characters from 82-85! Last edited by dchimpy; 11-12-2012 at 12:07 PM.. |

I bought a package of 100 o-rings on ebay for $4 from an auto manufacturing company and have had no problems. They sell them as gi joe size o-rings and are the same size that are supposed to go on them(modern equivalent).

with some of the 82 and 83 figures I actually switched to rubber bands. very very small ones, hard as heck to find. I had a problem with new o-rings breaking the T hook clean off. T hooks are hard to come by now, or I'm looking for them in the wrong places.

MS29513, nitrile rubber. Nice and tactile. The problem like with all o-rings is the 5-10 year shelf life. After that they are too brittle for use.
