Defiant restoration

Hi everybody! I'm currently working on restoring a Defiant launch complex. Lucky me I found it for a good deal on eBay and I have about 80% or more of it. The body is in good condition but there are still some flaws considering that the toy is 25 years old. I've counted about 12 parts that are broken, snapped, or where you can see stress marks. Lucky me though, all but about 2 are fixable to where you won't be able to tell they were broken in the 1st place. So here is my 1st hurdle, fixing the crank to lift the launch platform. I have the bar with the twirl part to raise the arms, but the handle is broken off. I found the handle that is still attached to the bar but it doesn't have the twirl part. Does anyone out there know how I need to fix it? If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it. Just hit me back on this thread. I'll keep everyone posted as I get it together more and what my plans are for it. Thanks.

You might just have to buy a new piece. Hard to say without pics. Post some up if you can.

Here are the two crank arms I have. One has the coil on the end and a broken handle. The other has the handle but no coil on the end.

Here are a few pics of the Gantry. I've disassembled it completely and washed it. My next step is to Oxi soak it and then make repairs on cracked parts where needed.

Here is the booster. I don't know if anyone can tell or not from the pics, but the upper shell has some minor yellowing around the left middle to the center where the cockpit attaches going over to the right side and ends around where the engine cover is. It's noticable to me. Next step is to Oxi soak it and then start putting it together again.

Here are some pics of the shuttle. This thing was so dirty when I got it. You can tell how bad it was with some pics from the Gantry doors. I need to clean them again. I want to take them off 1st, but need to figure out how to get the metal rods out without damaging the doors.
The shuttle is pretty nice. MINOR yellowing that you may not be able to see. There are some little blue scuffs on the top cargo bay doors I need to clean off somehow.
Next step, Oxi soak it and then put it back together.
Does anyone know how to disassemble the crane from its rotating base?

Ive rebuilt and reinforced the lifting system on A Defiant a few times, but I have never had to combine two rods into one. From looking at your pics maybe you could try to slide the spiral gear off the one rod. You wont be able to twist it off it has to pull straight off due to the key shape on the rod. Check the spiral gear and see if there are grooves along the inner hole for sliding it on and off the rod and check for a locking piece and you will definitely need a lubricant like WD-40. If you dont see grooves, I wouldnt even try.

I take it lubing the polls on the doors will be the best way to take them apart as well? Thanks for the tip PV! P.S. I've seen your Python Patrol customs. Very impressive set. Especially the Defiant, Flagg, and Phantoms!
