I've a bunch of vintage Joes I like & recently dug them out of storage. I then bought some of the new Renegades to go with them.
I thought they were all 3.75inches - but the Renegades looks quite bigger. What is going on? When did the size change take place & what are the measurements? thanks! |

Starting in 2007 with the 25th Anniversary line all the figures are now around 4 inches.

Yes, I like the new sculpt & size, but I miss the elastic waist - you could get more poses out of them that way, bending them backwards & forwards more.
Plus you could drive swords into their guts |

O-ring vs. ME (Modern Era)
It's up to you if you want to mix them together but it's pretty much like Apples vs. Oranges. For what it's worth, I do not collect any o-ring figures because to me (my opinion), they look completely sub-par as far as sculpt, paint apps and overall mechanical execution. You can't get more poses out of o-ring figures because they have significantly less articulation. That's a fact. |

If you compare the 2007-2009 ME figures to the newer retaliation figures you will find that the retaliation figures are a little taller. The best example is the red ninja.
I prefer the ME figures over O-rings as the sculpt is just badass!!!

Basically that's the way I look at it.
I will say however that what really got me into collecting ME Joes at all was the nearly 100% identical re-issue of the original H.I.S.S. tank. I think many of the vintage vehicles designs still hold up very well to the test of time and was/is one of the best aspects of the toys. |
