One of the best things about GI Joe was the box/card art.

Seconded, such a talent and such a big part of making GI Joe what it is today. Glad he lived a long life.

Agreed. What an amazing artist. Helped to shape our childhoods. At least me and Xero. We are old. RIP.

Destro's Dominator can outmaneuver and outgun G.I.Joe's ground forces, then convert to an attack helicopter and outfly G.I.Joe's most sophisticated aircraft. Check out the 360 photos, restored box art, photo gallery with dozens of photos, blueprints and more at: Destro's Dominator - 3DJOES 3DJoes is rolling, after calling in reinforcements. A special thank you to Chad Hucal, Pablo Ocampo and Henry F. Murray for photo editing and Ben Thomas for crafting captions. |

Digging up an old post because I was wondering about this.
Quote:
Regarding Street Fighter, they were never part of the G.I.Joe universe: they were not featured in the ARAH comics, cartoons (obviously, since the DIC cartoon had ended by then), or even written into the Joe universe on the filecards. So, in my Joe universe, they simply don't exist. Also, where would they stop? YoJoe includes the SF2 1993 figures in the Joe lineup: https://www.yojoe.com/action/93/
But YoJoe doesn't include the Street Fighter Movie figures released in 1994, explaining "the Street Fighter Movie figures are not considered G.I.Joe figures." https://www.yojoe.com/action/94/ Well, in my 3DJoes archiving world, NO Street Fighter figures are considered G.I.Joes. They aren't featured on 3DJoes, they aren't on my posters, and they aren't in my books. As far as the Street Fighter characters not appearing in the comic or cartoon, couldn't the same be said for a lot of the official G.I. Joe characters, such as The Fridge, Super Trooper, or Starduster? Steel Brigade, Create-a-Cobra, and Listen 'N Fun Tripwire don't have conventional file cards, but all are on your site. Obviously, it's your site and you can include or not include whatever you want, but the absence of these figures - as well as Cobra Infiltrate Jinx, which I believe was officially sanctioned by Hasbro - feels to me like a big omission on what is otherwise a nicely comprehensive guide to the 1982-1994 ARAH line. My $.02. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! We work hard on the site and I appreciate you taking an interest.
Full transparency, I've collected all of the 1993 SFII figures and vehicles, and I am only missing the Dragon Fortress. Does someone want to sell or loan me that so I can eventually add the 1993 SFII figures, vehicles, and playsets to the site? (I have to personally document everything to get the 360 photos and ensure consistent quality.) Regarding the G.I.Joe: ARAH universe: I still firmly believe they aren't in it. The Fridge and Super Trooper received TV commercials and pack in figure offers that squarely tied them into the ARAH story. Super Trooper's offer was a comic. Stardusted co-starred in a TV commercial with Duke and Dusty, and he received three mini comics putting him squarely in the ARAH universe. Steel Brigade has several offers that pegged him as a member of the G.I.Joe Special Forces. Tripwire is Tripwire, no question he's in based on his previous release and countless audio book, comic, and cartoon appearances. Create-a-Cobra is a Cobra Trooper and was offered alongside other Joes and Cobras so he's in: http://www.3djoes.com/uploads/1/3/3/...76051_orig.jpg Quote:

To my mind, the distinction is very simple. The 1993 Street Fighter II figures have a G.I. Joe logo on the packaging, while the 1994 "Official Movie Fighter" figures do not. That pretty clearly makes the 1993 figures part of the G.I. Joe line and the 1994 movie figures not. As far as the Street Fighter characters not appearing in the comic or cartoon, couldn't the same be said for a lot of the official G.I. Create-a-Cobra is a Cobra Trooper and was offered alongside other Joes and Cobras so he's in: However, the toys do still have that G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero logo prominently displayed on the packaging. Personally, I think that alone merits their inclusion in the database. But, again, it's your site. I just wanted to pick your brain on why these are missing. Sadly, although I have all the 1993 SF II figures, I don't have any of the vehicles or playsets. Quote:

And what about the Cobra Infiltrate Jinx figure? Jinx is inarguably a G.I. Joe character, and that figure was sold at a G.I. Joe convention with Hasbro's blessing. On a related thought, how do you feel about something like the Action Soldier / Action Marine / Action Pilot / Action Sailor keychain figures? I know they're technically post-1994, but there's a debate to be had about whether they should be part of the G.I. Joe line or a separate promotional item. For that matter, none of the 1994 30th Anniversary figures are branded as A Real American Hero on their packaging, just the vintage G.I. Joe logo. I could argue (but won't) that they don't belong in an ARAH database. Quote:

The first one explicitly says: "It's the most lethal G.I. Joe team yet - Capcom's Street Fighter II!" and "Cobra's got Street Fighters too!" Not trying to be argumentative here. Just think it's an interesting subject to discuss. Last edited by Josh Z; 09-30-2020 at 03:39 PM.. |
