hi all, i just learned of the existence of this early three pack of Cobras. Yo Joe! has a snippet about it:
>>JC Penney released an exclusive three pack set: two Cobras and one Cobra Officer. For this set, one of the Cobras came with Rock 'n Roll's machine gun and bipod. The other came with either the thin-handled version of Zap's bazooka or a dark green version of the bazooka.<< Anybody ever seen it or own a set? i saw the off color bazooka at the Con, got me to wondering. Anyone know which variant cobra soldiers it came with? i am guessing it was straight arm? which eye color? was the machine gun the same color as Rock and Roll's MG? could be a fun project to recreate if i had a little to go on... |

well Zap DID have three variant bazookas, thin handle, thick handle and double handle, all were the same green, except of course the accy pack bazooka. the one i was shown was a darker green, Yo Joe has a pic of it here, bottom of the page:
COBRA (v1), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! i'd be more concerned about getting the other parts of the set correct as issued.. |

Some of the cobras may have come with Zap colored bazooka's, but the weapon that is exclusive to this set is the Color of Grunt's Back Pack.

To the best of my knowlege the Eye variation always corresponds with the Strait Arm/Swivel Arm change.... It's a correlation that I don't think was really made clear in YoJoe.com's descriptions.

yes, Chris showed me that as a matter of fact when i was beating him up over steering wheels and a few other of the more rarefied parts,. pulled it out of his 'secret box'. i'd never seen it before, so i opted not to buy till i learned more about it.

This is all that's said there on the page, same for both the 82 and 83's. yeah, kinda unclear. i'll go look at my couple figures
>>Some versions of Cobra came with the eyes and eyebrows painted in red, while some came with the eyes and eyebrows painted in black. Neither variant is more difficult to find than the other. The red eyes and eyebrows are pictured below.<< |

you might just be right thank you, my sampling is small, but my 82 Officer and soldier have a much warmer skin tone, the 83 officer, two troopers and my blank chested viper pilot (sorry, haven't had the heart to cough up $100 for a good one yet) all have more pale skin, makes the eye paint seem a duller brown too... Do you know if the Rock and Roll MG is the same, no color change?

As best I can tell you it's the same. I've seen plenty of RnR machine guns and can't say I've seen any that were ever different... Granted the bazooka is hella rare, so the MG would be equally rare..it's possible but I think there are a few carded samples that show no difference.
