I quit in 1989. I so wish i would have never stopped buying Joes. I did not get back into it until the year 2000 when i saw a two pack of "The Real American Hero" series and after i saw that i was all in once again.

1990... I was told I was too old... but to be fair, I was and it was when Joes began to lose their way, even Hama stopped really giving all the new characters their own personality. You could tell when he had to insert the new stuff seemingly to appease Hasbro, then never being seen or heard from again.

1993, I was eleven. Plus my mom said the new Joes were way out of control "weird". I re-started in 2008 when I was taking my kids to the toy isle in Target. I had not had a toy since 1993 when out of the corner of my eye I noticed the 25th anniversary Joe blister card. I bought Wild Bill, a B.A.T., and Serpentor I was going to open them check em out and get rid of them. Boy was I wrong, that was 6 years and 30 thousand dollars ago.

Technically never. I only stopped collecting during the "Extreme" years, but once the O-ring Joes returned, I started buying them again. I also didn't get too many of the Sigma-6 figures, and 2 of the ones I got I've since sold.

Started about 83/84, finished 1988. Entered high school, and toys were done. Got into music, via BMG music service (remember...12 cassettes for 1 penny?!).
Returned to the fold for a brief moment with a SE vs. SS 2000 2 pack. Those were the only two I had, symbolizing my childhood favs. Even passed on the 2005 Vietnam 2 pack at TRU...until 2008 when I decided to go all out in my SE/SS collecting. Once I had all those, it was about 2010 with the POC line that I started adding other characters. Now I customize and enjoy the heck out of my hobby; won't be getting rid of my collection, REGARDLESS of whether or not there's a lull in the action between now and the 3rd movie.

I never collected as a kid. I guess I hit the start of 3 3/4 at the wrong age and only had the 82' stuff. I just about wore them out playing with them but kept them all. All the destructive energy went into my older brothers 12" stuff so my little guys stayed in pretty good shape. Not sure how I managed to keep them. Only a couple of usual broken parts like Zap's thumbs and such.
Collecting started with my son, and me rediscovering Joes while Christmas shopping. Found the Dojo set and a talking 12" Duke (on clearance). Damn you 2008 Convention in Dallas! Haven't missed one since. Some of the people I consider my best friends I only see once or twice a year at JoeCon and maybe another event or two. My point is - GO TO JOECON! You will rediscover why you enjoy collecting. |

About 1991. The last vehicle I got was the Badger. I do agree that by that time GI Joe got really bizarre.

90.
The joes that year were pretty bad in my opinion, so I just gave up. I had stopped watching the DIC Series after the first episode of the miniseries, it just got too stupid. I just felt hasbro was being the jerk they are known to be. |

I stopped initially near the end of 1984. I had all of the figures and was missing a few vehicles.
I very clearly remember being in the toy aisle one day with money in my pocket and looking to buy something. I did not have enough for the WHALE, but did have enough for the Slugger and SHARC. I picked each of them up, looked them over, and decided I didn't want them. As a 12 year old who absolutely loved the line, that was a very big deal not to buy them. I never bought another Joe toy again until 1996 when I briefly started buying but ultimately stopped since the Star Wars juggernaut became all-consuming. I started back again in 2005 and have never looked back.
