I never stopped collecting toys when I was a kid. In fact even when girls where noticable I still collected figures. Girls were awesome but could never replace the imagination I had and my collecting habits. I have always liked girls, but I am not a great go getter, either they have experienced too much or they already have someone, so action figures have always been my one true love.
You know around the time I was kind of getting out of toys, my friend pulled me back in when the Star Wars special edition came out. Then I knew I had to have toys for that. Well, that was fun. I now have 8-9 totes worth of that.
Some people call me the toy boy, especially when I worked at Walmart. Fun times. Girls still like me even with the stuff I have, never a turn off.

I believe it was some time after the release of retaliation, or whenever they stopped producing them... I didn't collect anything as a kid. I bought toys to play with.

The last year I stopped collecting was in either 90 or 91 when the Joe Avalache come out. I remember my grandpa took me to buy one LAST toy of my choice before growing up and got into girls and muscle cars and the choice of mine was the Avalache!!! Still miss that tank!!

I stopped heavily collecting in 1987. I picked up a figure or 2 here and there until the end of the vintage line in 1994. I started re-collecting vintage in 2007 because the 25th figures reminded me of the awesomeness of the O-ring stuff.

Stopped buying in '86 didn't care for the cobra-la movie stuff. Bought my son some around '02-'04, and started collecting in '08. Modern era figures are how I imagined my joes back in the day.

1987, being a teen got expensive. Big hair and rubber bracelets got a lot on my baby sitting money. Not to mention all the neon cloths. Being a girl in the 80's was expensive.
