Well I got a bunch during Christmas and birthdays. But my parents didn't find it too expensive to get me figures so I ended up with damn near every figure ever made. I also had an allowance so I spent that too. I know my family spent a ga-zillion dollars on me between the ages of 6 and 12 because I collected both Joes and Transformers. God Bless those people, I just wished I had all my toys from back then. I would have to buy another house to display them all in!!

I got some big stuff from my Grandma sometimes at Christmas like the Skystriker, Moray, and Optimus Prime. Mostly I bought them all myself using the money from mowing lawns and working at our family butcher shop.

Chores, allowance, mowing lawns, as presents, and collecting pop bottles. 30 pop bottles = 1 GI Joe.
I usually bought them at Van Leunans, K-Mart, Revco, Elder Beerman, Sears, Children's Palace, KayBee, or the odd grocery store. I had all of the first 2 series, and most of them up to 85/86--sent away for Bludd and CC. I did have multiples of Officer, soldier, CG, Eel, and Snow Serpent. I did like certain vehicles (I had all from the 82 year), and then focused more on smaller vehicles and battle station sets. I did have WHALE, Moray, and Skystriker, but I mostly had the smaller stuff like Mocassin, HISS, Fang, and Skyhawk type vehicles. |

Sometimes parents would buy 'em. Mostly it was birthday and x-mas gifts.

I only had a few when I was a kid until years later when I got a paperout. Most of the ones I got as a kid where from barter. My He-man's for your Joes. Or this for that Joe...etc. Being a Mexican made it less understanding to my parents who where immigrants at the time of needing to get more Joes.

My family would always buy me joes, the big stuff was at xmas, so like my terror drome and cobra bugg, and mobile command center. It also helped to have much older brothers who knew what a kid would like to get as presents, so I didnt get so much clothes and stuff during christmas like others

My trick was to impress my folks with my A+ grades and show them that I loved to stay home and study. It worked out pretty well!

Saving allowance money for chores($3 a week, then $5, then $10), birthdays, Christmas, doctor visits...I got pneumonia one year and I think I got almost all of wave 5 in a 3 week span (thanks Mom!) straight A's was good for at least 3 or 4. I used to get Joes from Sears, Kesslers, Circus World, Revco, and TRU.
