My biggest ARAH at retail memories are Toys R Us, Service Merchandise and Kaybee. Whenever I went to TRU or SM between 86 and 90 I remember the shelves being packed with so much stuff I probably never even saw it all. I usually had 425 or less in saved allowance so my buying power was limited.

When I was a kid I didn't necessarily know what was out at retail to go hunting for it. I just knew what I had to have when I found it. I remember using the cardbacks to cross figures I had and would keep my eye out for the ones I didn't, but didn't necessarily hunt them down.
I remember the Sky Patrol stuff being difficult to find, all I ever saw and bought was Airborne. There were some later vehicles I never saw at retail like the Liquidator and the Storm Eagle.

The 1984 Strom Shadow and the first swivel grip Cobra Commander. Could never find them, however couldn't drive to go hunting either. Got them for X-mas though, good 'ole Mom and Dad came through...yay for me!

Beachhead and Dial-Tone
Could not find them anywhere locally, finally found them at a store in Maine when we were on vacation.

The only one I remember was back in '84 when my best friend and I spent the day helping his dad load cut tree branches into the back of a truck he had rented and brought them to the dump. As a reward he was going to buy each of us a new Joe. We both wanted Storm Shadow. We'd seen him on the back of the card of some other new Joe we bought and just had to have a ninja!
When we got to Bock's Toy Store we were disappointed to find he wasn't there. Pegs full of new figures, but not one bad assed white suited ninja. In the end, we picked up Firefly instead because he had a mask like a ninja and maybe he could be one too. The little walkie-talkie and the removable panel on the back pack sealed the deal.

85 Snake Eyes was very hard to find, but I'll never forget finding him at Smitty's. 82/83 Cobra Commander was impossible to find (never found him back then).

So were the 1984 Storm Shadow and 1985 Snake Eyes underproduced, or were they just very popular and selling out fast even when produced in high numbers?
