I got to thinking, if kids actually do take to these Rise Of Cobra toys.. and it started their interest into the G.I.Joe world. Would Rise Of Cobra carded be the sought after vintage for the next generation? And all this time, we made fun of it. My guess is not, just because there are so many choices out there to "represent" their childhood, whereas we had a handful of smaller options but G.I.Joe was big.

If we are going to play the "what if" game, then let me say this.
If the movie is a success in the main stream market. And if the kids who see it fall in love with Ninja's and power suit wearing soldiers. And if the parent of those kids remember their GI Joe toys from their youth. And if the media and movie critics like it. And if the retailers like it and support the merchandise. And if the news likes it enough to hype it. Then yes it will become the ARAH of this generation of kids.

I hope so. Because as much as almost everyone else seems to hate these figures, I plan on having every single f'in one of 'em.

Yes, if I have anything to do with it.
20 years from now my son will be scouring the secondary markets for a Paris Escape Suit Storm Shadow. Just kidding, he'll have an open version and a MOC back up that I'll buy a month from now in a box in the attic. |

Golden Compass figures will be the vintage of the next gen. I'd better run out to Big Lots and get as much as I can now so I can make a mint and retire 20 years from now.

Probably less popular than SW Ep. 1 figures are today (and those are 10 years old now).
In this day & age, mass production & mass collecting won't allow it.

Do you think so? They said that 25 years ago and look at the toy market for toys from back then today. I went to a local vintage toy shop and saw Atari systems for sale, I think I gave my system away, yet they sit in a store today for sale at $200.00 for a complete in box system. So maybe the collectibles of the next generation will be Pokemon, Yugio, and Dragon Ball. Who knows for sure any way.

Yeah, but look at the secondary market of the Old/New Star Wars figs from 1995... they aren't worth much more than they were on the shelves even MOC except for a few rare exceptions.
They make way more product than they did in the 80s.

Vintage video games are the nostalgic collectibles of the next generation. Kids are gonna feel about action figures the same way we feel about super soakers. They were fun as shit, but nobody is going to collect them.
