After seeing that picture the other day of Kenner workers putting together some old 80's toys it got me interested in the old days (80's) of action figures.
Does anyone on the Tank have any relatives that used to work at the old Hasbro (RI) and Kenner (Cincinnati, Ohio) factories? I would love to hear some stories about what it was like putting together vintage Star Wars and G.I. Joe figures and vehicles. |

Those kids have probably got to be 18 or 19 by now.

18? Ouch, I'm 32! My mom worked at the business office on Newport ave in Pawtucket for 15 years not the factory down the street. We always had access to the Hasbro employee toy store where the factory was upstairs. I worked at that toy store myself in 95' but unfortunately Joe's were finished the year before. The factory part closed down in about 1991 ish'. I went on cub scout field trips there when I was little and got a tour during the heyday.
I'm sure the Ron Rudat movie they just released has tons of the cool behind the scenes your looking for. |

I knew several people that worked there.
One woman worked there as a teenager assembling the 12 inch Joes. They were paid per piece and she upset alot of older workers by devising a method that allowed her to crank them out. Another person I knew put the Sea Wolf together and boxed it. This was a white submarine for the 12 inch line from the 70's as well. |

I have 2 very close personal friends that worked for Kenner back from the late 70's to mid 90's. Basically until the end when Hasbro took over. The stories are amazing and the stuff that I have received over the years are even better ;)
