I'm not sure about losing it's way in the 90s, Kirk Bozigian often tells us 1986 and 1992 were the biggest selling years for GI Joe for Hasbro. (IIRC)

Picked up a MISB Mega Marines Monster Blaster APC - a vehicle I never had as a kid. I do have the 2004 BAT Transport which is the same mold and think it's a great vehicle. I pretty much scrapped my original plan of what I was wanting to purchase for remaining 90s vehicles lol. The Patriot, Earthquake, Brawler are all out - the Parasite I am on the fence about because I do want another Cobra troop carrier and I plan on getting a Badger, Paralyzer and Scorpion.
I cannot believe how expensive 1994 Vipers are. Seems like the price really took off over the past year. I am trying to find a few 90s Cobra figures to army build and am thinking of going the MOC route for the most part. Flak-Viper and Heat-Viper both seem to be fairly common and at a decent price point. Also the 94 Cobra Scorpion jeep does not seem as common as I thought it would be. I am also compiling my list of new mold figures I need to purchase - such a vicious cycle lol. If you don't already have a BUGG, I'd recommend it as a Cobra troop carrier. I never even knew it existed as a kid, but when I found out about it as an adult, I needed one immediately. Really like it, and it's great for holding all those 90's neon cobra figures. Lol @ the price of the 94 Viper. You'd be better off buying the Convention Iron Anvil repaint at that price. |

That's interesting... why did things go so wrong so fast in that case? Was it simply the rise of video games vs. action figures? Or did Hasbro simply abandon the line even though it was still successful?

I asked the same questions about a month ago and was provided this to provide a solid explanation of why Joe suddenly disappeared after 94: http://www.joedeclassified.com/wp-co...15_FINAL_2.pdf |

For those of you with the Condor - what do you think of it? I may get a condor to round out my cobra air force. Is it sturdy? any parts easily breakable like the landing gear or the mechanism that connects the two parts of the jet together?

The Condor is a beautiful bomber, and I love owning one. It's hard for me to comment on fragility as I've only owned one and I received it in very good condition, no broken parts, and since I don't play with it (it just sits on a shelf) It hasn't come under any stress. However when I raise and lower the landing gear I don't feel stressed about them breaking like I do on a 1984 Rattler. The Condor's landing gear seem sturdy enough. The two halves connect together quite well, and the 'bombing' features work really well.

http://www.joedeclassified.com/wp-co...15_FINAL_2.pdf So what did TMNT, Power Rangers and the Xmen all have in common? It wasn't the flashy colors and gimmicks that sold those toys it was there strong media outlets. They all had very successful cartoons or in MMPR's case a live action TV series. What did Gi joe have? DICK oops sorry I ment Dic the show was no more than a mockery of what it once was and was damn near unwatchable. Which begs to ask the question why? Well because Hasbro had to pay for Sunbow while if I remember right DiC did it for nothing. IMO this is where Hasbro lost touch with what made the 80s successful for them. 80s toys were driven by the Cartoons that supported them think of all the toys we bought as kids Gi joe, TF, Thundercats, Motu, M.A.S.K, Centurions, TMNT, Ghostbusters hell even Sectaurs had a cartoon. In the 90s TMNT, MMPR and Xmen all had great TV exposure and video games based on these titles. Before anyone mentions it yes I know Gi joe had two NES titles but by the early 90s NES was a thing of the past and SNES and Genesis had taken over in which all the previous mentioned lines had great titles on these new systems. Video games were becoming ever more popular and Hasbro failed to take notice. Any of this sound familiar? It should because it's been haunting the Gi joe brand ever since. When Gi joe relaunched in 1982 Hasbro had to take a hard look at how they needed to market these new toys and they found Marvel Comics which was one of the main media outlets for kids at the time. Hasbro needs to do the same now and nowadays its video games, mobile apps and Movies/TV. If you ask me that's how you need to reach the Millenial generation. That's IF that's who you want your market to be. Gi joe could do well as an adult collector line much like MOTU and with less and less kids buying toys this isn't a bad thing. To answer about the Condor it's a great vehicle. I have had a few over the years and only had the landing gear break once because it was tight and I kind of forced it. I have had one mint for quite a while now that has been hanging up in my joe room so I haven't really messed with it much, but I wouldn't been too worried if I did. I have had worse issues with the landing gear on Night Ravens and Rattlers.

Well, the Grunt I mentioned earlier in this thread arrived today. He's definitely not a repro, the waffling is present on the glue and everything else checks out. The glue mark where the price tag was peeled off is visible too. Minus a small amount of warping to one corner, he's perfect. You can tell he's been in a closet for 30 years as the colours are spot on, the bubble is perfectly clear and scuff and dent free and Grunt himself is in perfect condition. Such a great thing to own, really pleased with him!
