Unfortunately Hawk doesn't work. When he arrived his back pack was in 3 parts. So I'll be looking to replace that. How's the local hunt?

Pretty dried up around here of stuff I am still looking for, mostly vehicles and random 90's figures. Those are harder to find than the more popular stuff. Local flea market is down to the Avalanche's walls, one Bugg sled, 92 Duke's gun and a mudbuster missing all its parts.

I scored a GvsC black Snake Eyes vs. Cobra Commander at a flea market today, MOC. I'm slowly easing back into building-up my collection with both vintage and more modern figures and vehicles. And, speaking of vintage vehicles...I also scored an old dusty, roached-out Phantom X-19!! I've been toying with the notion (no pun intended) of restoring old vintage vehicles, and I've actually started on a couple of my own. I currently have my original MCC in pieces where I've broken it down part-by-part and cleaned everything, but I haven't gotten around to getting the missing and/or broken parts I need for it. Same goes for a Slugger my older brother bought me for my birthday year before last...
Anyway, I was checking-out this guy's toy booth at a relatively-local indoor flea market I like to go to when I can, and he has loads of Joe stuff, old and new, packaged and loose. I was checking-out an old X-19 he had on one of his shelves...I had never seen one in person, but I had always wanted one. When I was a kid, back when it first came-out, I wanted it so bad. When Christmas rolled-around, of course I asked for G.I. Joe stuff, and I got some great stuff that year, I couldn't complain one bit, but I didn't get the X-19. I would have been perfectly fine had my brother not told me days before hand he saw...or he thought he saw, upon recollection, my mom put the X-19 in the shopping cart for me for Christmas. (lol) So I'm checking-out this guy's X-19, and I think he had thirty-or-forty-dollars on it, and it was pretty beat-up and incomplete, but I don't remember him having a ridiculous price on it, whatever it was. I passed on it, but he then directs my attention to basically a shell of another X-19 he has sitting up on top of the little beams of his booth, and he offers to sell it to me for ten bucks...I think he had twenty on it originally or something. I examined it very carefully after he told me it was in great shape, and indeed it was... It just needs a lot of work and replacement parts, and of course it needs a whole lot of cleaning. So I said, what the heck and bought it. In the past I've been somewhat of a snob, not wanting anything other than mint-perfect items, MISB, MOMC, etc. But a few years ago, it occurred to me if I properly invested the time and attention into finding good vehicles and parts that were in decent shape, I could just restore some of them for a fraction of what the boxed and sealed stuff goes for. I couldn't wait...as soon as I got home awhile ago, I hit the floor in my laundry/mud-room right off the garage, and I started peeling all of the old melted and gnarly labels off of the fuselage, then I carefully unscrewed the screws and took the whole thing apart, right down to the landing gears, which, incidentally were spring-loaded using regular old Joe o-rings, it looked like to me; I didn't know about that little bit of engineering and found it interesting. I just hope I can remember how to put it all back together when I get everything fixed and cleaned-up. I've done some initial cleaning with some baby wipes, and it seems to be cleaning-up quite well. At first, though I though I had examined everything with a fine-toothed comb, as it were, and didn't think I detected any broken parts or posts, other than the neon green main vent cover that was loose and rattling-around inside, but I soon found out why...I actually found a broken post when I took the main body apart and wondered where it came from, hoping I hadn't done it when I was excitedly taking everything loose, but I finally figured-out it was one of the outside of three posts that held the neon green vent cover in place. I tried to put the panel back in place with just the other two intact posts, and you can definitely tell it's loose without it. so I guess I'm gonna have to glue that post back in-place, then perhaps glue the panel-hole back down over it when it dries. In the old days that kind of "DIY" refurbishing was not even an option for me, my OCD wouldn't allow it. (lol) But as I grow older, I'm learning to let things like that go and be more easy-going...everything doesn't have to be perfect, and life's too short to expect so, especially concerning old vintage toys. After all, these things are quickly becoming antique toys, as hard as that fact is for me to accept and wrap my mind around... I'll post some pics of my progress from time-to-time and let you all know how my restoration project goes. I'm so excited... (lol)

Great story Commando. I literally just finished fully restoring my X-19 about 2 weeks ago and had mine broekn all the way down much as you did. PM me if you want and tips or tricks, and I can pass on a link to great decals at a fraction of cobrastickers prices, and they are pre-cut. Remember, with the X-19 that it has a coating on the plastic unlike almost any other Joe toy of that era (I think it was to simulate stealth tile technology). With that said, decals applied to those rough areas will discolor the plastic and leave an outline regardless of how many cleanings you give it. Hope it turns our grat and we look forward to your pics!

As I was checking-out the upper and lower fuselage pieces, I noticed another piece had broken-off...it was one of the tiny clips that holds the left fold-out wing-cannon. I don't think there's any way to overcome that... Also, I found out about the plastic the hard way, CG...I used "Goo Gone" to clean-off the label residue that looked to be baked-on from decades of neglect and poor storage, and yes, the adhesive used for the labels seemed to leave a bleached-out effect wherever they were placed, leaving the plastic discolored in the shape of the label that was removed. *sigh* Oh, well...I was sooo close to having an X-19 after all these years. This has definitely been a buzz-kill. I was so excited, and now I guess I just bought a pile of spare X-19 parts. Easy come, easy go... (lol)
