Just have to be patient. Took about 6-9 months of checking about once a week to come across that lot. It’s usually people who have obviously used eBay as a reference to price their toys. I also use offer-up and let-go apps. Have grabbed quite a few deals there. I guess it’s hit or miss. Wish I had Truejoefans yard sale luck! I still think one day I will come across a complete Defiant in the box at some old lady’s yard sale where she says “It’s $20, I just want to get rid of that heavy box”. I guy can dream

Or people see something on EBay and they think it's gold. I had a guy a few weeks back with a Flagg that was very yellowed and only about 70% complete that he was asking $1000 because he seen some sell on ebay for that. I tried to explain condition is everything and his was not even close to a collectors grade so what he had was a good parts lot at best. He wasn't hearing it. Best he would do was 950 I told him I didn't want to insult him but I wouldn't pay more the $200 he looked at my like I had ten heads. It had only 5 deck clips that I could find. No Y pins no fan tail deck rail and no fuel trailer or tow vehicle. So even the 200 would be a stretch. This still wasn't as crazy as the guy a few years back asking 10000 for a Nes console and Mario because it was a 001. I told that guy I wouldn't do anything over 9500 because it didn't have a zapper ;)
Very rarely do I find O ring Joe's at thrift shops. I do see ME every now and again. This week's Hauls.... CL can have little mini bonanzas from time to time...but for every $60 huge lot I’ve found, I have come across inomplete skystikers that the seller is asking $150 for. You just never know

Yes. This is true. When I price my vehicles to sale, it’s with this in mind. I also have two different pricing systems: eBay prices and Joe collector prices. I give bigger deals to Joe collectors. I don’t sell on CL because even at a fair price, some people want something for nothing. If I restore a vehicle I pay $10 for bit needs parts, clean-up and restoration that runs $10 more, I will list the vehicle at $25. It’s a small margin but not a lot. Some CL buyers however will over half of that and seem offended if you decline. 80’s Joes are seeing a sharp increase in value and as buyers and sellers on any medium, we must be aware of this. In the case of my big lot pick-up, I believe in paying it forward and have listed about 10 of those vehicle after restoration on eBay below market value in the hopes someone gets a nice piece to add to their collection. But, if it’s a TD, Whale, Night Force Vehicle or similar....I’m going to get as much as possible due to the cost of parts, time spent finding them and demand.

^^^^^^ This all day long. I enjoy helping fellow collectors out when I can. I ain't trying to get rich pushing plastic crack lol. I enjoy restoring vehicles and I usually only make a small percentage once everything is said and done. With the rarer stuff I tend to do better but like you said parts are harder to track down for certain things & if you account for time & labor cleaning, decal removal, hunting etc even on those I ain't making much. IMO it's better to have a name in this community as a good person to deal with than to make a few extra dollars. I have met a bunch of collectors both local and out of state who have helped me get my collection where it is and I want people to say the same about me. I even have a few good connections at local antique, comic shops and flea markets because of this. I had a guy last week give me a bunch a parts I was trying to buy from him because he mistakenly had some Joe's labled as Corps figures and I told them who and what they were.

I recently got one myself! Wasn't cheap, it was one of the figures I was willing to pay for though rather than spend years and years looking for one for next to nothing. He's one of the Cobra vehicle drivers I was missing, so my collection is coming along nicely. Still a way to go yet though.
Other than him, I recently bought a few Joes off a guy on ebay, he was selling them for a decent price. Not giveaway prices, but not ridiculously over the odds like some. So as always, I asked him if he had anything else to sell, and I got lucky. He was looking to sell his whole collection! Suffice to say, I've got a lot of Joes on the way, including a few vehicles as well. Not even entirely sure what I'm getting... well I am, but he said he'll throw in a few others apart from the photos he sent, so it'll be a nice surprise. I think there's about 100 figures in all. Nothing rare, and a few Ninja Force in there for good measure, but in the main it's a really nice haul. |

I just got a Retaliator in tonight. It's huge! No pilot and missing a couple bombs, but overall I'm pleased.
