Looking for some advice.... I currently have the 84 Killer Whale I had as a kid, which is in really good shape, except for the broken missile launcher arms. I recently bought an 84 Killer Whale for the sole purpose of removing its 2 perfect missile launcher arms.
I haven't attempted to remove them yet. Has anyone removed these before? How did you do it? I read one thread where the tanker used baby oil to loosen up the tabs and was able to pull off the top shell of the hovercraft. Do you think this would work with the launcher arms? I suppose I could dremel out the edge and simply slide them out without messing up the bottom part of the arm. But while I was cleaning it, my son became interested and asked if he could have it. So if possible, I would like to not ruin it and just let him play with it when it is all cleaned up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Baby oil is definitely going to be your best bet... if you haven't gotten the top shell off yet, you'll need to do that first so you can get at it from the top and the bottom.
It's funny you mention this as a) I was probably the 'Tanker you refer to in your post and b) I'm having problems with one of my launcher arms as well; not that it's broken, just that it's a bit worn and thus will not support the weight of the missile box. Just say NO to Dremmeling for right now. Absolute last resort. This is a classic piece, man. Don't damage it unless you have to.

my opinions from experience...
these are reeeeeeal tricky. be careful. id say they are near impossible to get out without breaking. if only one half of the bottom breaks you can still use it, but if both break your in trouble. baby oil, lots of baby oil... you must open the shell to get at it from underneath. there's no way to get it out just looking at it from on top. get a look at it from the bottom to see how you want to procede. and remember the baby oil.

Good luck. Not to hijack your thread and all, but since were on the subject, dose anyone have a fix for loose ones? One side of mine sags, Im sure it must be a common problem, so I figure someone out there has a good fix.
Thanks - sorry for the threadjacking. |

brokenarrowtoys.com is your new friend!
I sloppily removed a set of the launcher arms by disassembling the top from the bottom shell (start at the front and push the outsides of the green shell in toward each other and lift) and using needle nose pliers to squeeze the tabs at the bottomof the arm together and slightly pushing up. Once I go the bottom of the arm into the tube, it was smooth sailing. This could be done better, but I can't think of a better tool.
