I went to 2 different Wal-Marts over the weekend looking at their post Christmas toy selection. I spoke with the toy department managers at each WM and asked why they had clearanced the POC figures to $5.00 each.
I was told from both managers that their WM will not be carrying G.I. Joe in 2011. I was shocked and bumed out. This morning I stopped at a third Wal-Mart and saw an employee in toys. I asked if they knew anything about WM stop carrying Joes. The gentleman said he was the toy dept manager and showed me the 2011 toy department reset sheet. After he looked through it he said, "Nope this store is no longer carrying G.I. Joe. But we did bump up the peg space for the CORPS." He told me they make good money selling CORPS figures, not so much Joe product. So I am wondering if anyone else has checked their local WM to see if they quit carrying G.I. Joe as well. I asked the manager this morning if this is a company wide thing or just store to store. He said more than likely just store to store. So far 3 WM in my area are done with Joes :( I will have to hunt Wave 4 POC elsewhere. |

in a 20 mile radius I have 5-6 Wal-Marts. 2 don't have anything GI Joe related at all.

I'm not doing P/R of Cobra, so I haven't really been paying much attention. I glance over at them from time to time, since I would like to get Low-Light when he comes out. But, I know he won't be out for a while, so I don't check the Joes very well. I will say there always seems to be the same Joes on the front of the pegs. Jungle Vipers, Dukes, Destros, etc.

our local wal*marts are still stocking them, but only like a peg or two. the Corps is getting a huge push, which is sad because they are so poorly articulated. The characters seem cool, and they could be great figures if they would just update the builds on them. Go figure...

Call it speculation call it a hunch but I think Hasbro is pissed off at Walmart. Why do I say that? Personal experience and looking back at the history of the ROC series. It ended around here with Walmart hiking the price up to 9.99 a figure (give or take a few cents) and Hasbro reps coming in and taking all of it off the shelves. I saw this in person 2x. The figures sold decently at 5$ each and they stayed at that margin for a while. I think Hasbro knows Walmart is not putting their best foot forward with the line and Walmart is probably pissed ROC didnt sell as well as everyone hoped. But I think its more their own fault than anyone else's. Its going to take Renegades doing extremely well and the upcoming Toyfare to build some buzz for the next waves for Walmart to consider restocking with Joes. Now around here only 1 Walmart I know of is getting out of Joes, the other 2 I frequent are keeping the line. Oddly the one getting out is the only one that received any Vamps and Fury's and where I spend most of my Joe money. The same thing happened to Marvel Universe in 09' Most Walmarts dropped the line till the hype caught on and then they started carrying them again, but at a higher price.
