I would go with time to enjoy the things I like. You can have enough of the others, but there's never enough time. Makes me wonder why I took the time to sit here and read this entire thread instead of getting out of here to go and not find wave 7...

Name another hobby where collectors need to buy more than one. Sure sometimes they have two, one to keep and one to trade, but not to keep both. Car collectors are happy with one car, stamp collectors are happy with one stamp, shot glass collectors are happy with one shot glass....ect.......
(i mean one of each, not just one) Even with the 80's Joes, people just want one of each, not more than that. What if your child looked at the new Viper figure and said "That is totally bitchin! Can we get three?" Would you really tell him "no". This is a hobby... nothing more and nothing less. |

Well, Myotis, since you're new(er) here, I'm going to fill you in on alittle tidbit:
The "what about the kids?!" line has been used A MILLION TIMES, my friend. You & I both know that when you find wave 7 on shelves...you're not only going to buy one figure and leave the rest because of the kids. You're going to buy the entire wave. So c'mon, man, let's be honest with one another. Sure, we want to keep the kids in line because just as you said, they are the future, teach them well and let them lead the way...show them all the beaaaaaaaauty...oh wait, that's a song, nevermind. If there's any issue, you should hit Hasbro's webpage, click on the "Contact Us" button and share your thoughts about the availability of the line & the issues with distribution. Then, and only then, are you addressing the root cause. Blaming collectors for lack of product runs along the same lines as blaming your dentist of the lack of your favorite brand of toothpaste on the shelves. |

I don't care if kids get these figures at all. In fact, I hope they don't, because we have enough "competition" from one another as it is. Kids will have all the movie toys in the word, if Paramount can manage to get them interested in the brand, but 25th Anniversary is a line designed for and marketed to collectors. Our money made the line a success, but now we're supposed to buy less of what we want when we see it in a store, just on the off chance that a kid will come along and want them? Fat chance.

I'm going to throw in my two cents here, on this comment.
Wave 7 of 25th Anniversary GI Joe is hitting at basically the same time that Indiana Jones, Incredible Hulk, and Dark Knight toys have "shelf dates" to be on shelves, because believe it or not, some toys -do- have dates that th stores have to adhere to. However, one of the local stores (Meijer, if anyone cares) has put out the Indiana Jones deluxe packs, the bump and go Hulk ATV/3-wheeler, and the giant Hulk hands. That's it. Whether they didn't get the stock, or their stock person doesn't know what they're doing, the fact of the matter is, they can have all the street dates they want, but it is meaningless if the stores don't get the product. I've seen post after post for people having wave 7. I haven't seen a single wave 7 figure in the stores, more than likely because the local Wal-Mart has two pegs out of three full of wave 4, and the local Target has two mostly hidden pegs with some Cobra Troopers and a couple Scarletts. Street dates don't do anything. Stores break them, or don't even put product on the shelves on time, anyway. Toy product is produced, shipped, and put on shelves. Hunt, or buy on eBay. Those are your choices, and that's pretty much the bottom line. Quote:
Make an emotive statement and you expect emotive responses. Hardly 'foresight' predicting that!
As for "one Joe per customer": I'd find it slightly sinister to have my harmless interest controlled by such rationing. The "nanny state" is running rampant as it is without it encroaching into a simple, undemanding hobby. Quote:

I can say without a doubt, kids don't even care to look at the Joes on the pegs. I've been in the toy aisle with kids looking at everything but GI Joe. I think the only kids that have them, belong to parents who collect. This is not the 80's anymore. Kids like the toys that are popular with their friends, and what they see on tv. I agree with Compulsive Collector on this, leave the Joes for us.
