I read in another post he's been hitting as high as $400!
I passed on the figure because he wasn't RAH or 25th style. I love the RAH exclusives (mostly) and also collect the 25th/Modern Era stuff, but I don't have a whole lot of interest in the "new sculpt" period. Him being in 25th packaging wasn't enough for me... Exclusives are always in demand, more or less, but this one is going for much higher prices than others. Gold PDD I can understand, but why Piper? What's the extra factor here? Is it the packaging? I know that a lot of wrestling fans are into their action figure lines - are they buying this as well? |

good question. he must just be tougher to find than PDD... or maybe has more kitsch value (hard to believe that one)? i can't think of any other reasoning behind it.
this is neither here nor there, but i personally would only consider adding him to my collection if he was given to me for free. |

My assumption of why he is so valuable is because he is actaully a real person. Sgt. Slaughter was popular by the fans yet at the same time there people out there who might think he is not a real gi joe, just some "super hero" guy in the gi joe world.
But also Rowdy Roddy piper was a GI joe show special and wasn't available anywhere else so he is more collectible because not everyone had the ability to get him. I want one just to say i got one. Also its kind of cool to see real people as gi joe's. It might add for more people being a fan of it. If they made a Chuck Norris GI Joe I bet alot of people would jump at the chance to get one. |

Im suprised they made a RRP figure instead of SGTS. RRP is one of my all-time faves in the WWF. I think it has to do with marketing and if you look at this RRP he is a re-paint and re- use of the mold...helmet and coat. ETC Maybe hes a close friend of SGTS. and they needed some more retirement$$$$

There are only 1,000 of them. That's a very small run on an action figure from a mainstream line. The limited edition aspect attracts people who collect "rare" figures from any and all lines, in addition to G.I. JOE collectors who want them. That there are so few to go around is the only reason for the high price. In a few years, after more "rare" figures are released, this one may lose some of its distinction and popularity.

Yeah...I hate that this one was SO exclusive. I'd been waiting for YEARS for Cobra to have a real-life wrestler to battle Slaughter. I wish they could do a re-issue, preferably with his white "Hot Rod" shirt, but I know that would tick all the collectors that paid for the convention version off.

Add this statement to those of us that are Iron Grenadier Fanatics...or for those that are really in to wrestling..it appeals to different collecting tastes. Yes, it is ugly as sin. But I absolutely love it. |
