1:18 scale is a more accurate description. I'm going to buy them no matter what they call them. If they look good they'll save themselves from turning into custom fodder.
Also found a thread at JoeBattleLines about Joe scale.

3ĺ" is roughly what the ARAH run was. It wasn't exact, but it was close to the median. 1:18 is also close, but when you are describing something in scale it often implies that it is to scale, and I'd venture to guess that less than 5% of all the vehicles ever made for the line are even close to scale. A few months before the anniversary line began, Hasbro referred to it a few times as a new 100mm line, and this is very close to the height of most of the figs (as opposed to the 90mm of the 3ĺ" guys).
Out of habit I'll stick with 3ĺ", but if a change really is necessary, it might as well be correct, & with that dropping our Joes into the metric system.
Looking for odd funskool figs, payment with paypal. Please pm with your sale lists.

I want to know why the quality is so poor compared to 25 years ago, yet they are much more expensive. I cannot see these figures standing the test of time, too flimsy, bodies snap apart so easily, yet the original joes stand tall and strong today........but I still love them

Oh who cares? The term 3 3/4" has become, roughly the equivalent of saying 1:18 scale. No need to change it if the toy is slightly taller or whatever.

I agree! Close Enough for me.
But I can see the technical side of the argument.
I would personally say though, through retail experience. As a seller of anything, you will always go by "the old name" anytime. Customers of anything will always listen to that first.

Old Time G.I.Joe Collector from the 80's through 94.
G.I. Joe really hacked me off when they got all Neon and Anime Looking.
However, this new 25th Anniversary is just unbelievable. I ended up getting a E-Bay Auction of Waves 1-6 with varients and 2 2 Comic Packs and the 3 5 Packs. Paid $450.00 total. I know I probably overpaid severely. But man, I just had to. Yeah call me Dumb for not waiting. But I just had to have them. I have not felt this way about G.I. since I was a kid.

My only issue with regards to durability on the new ones are the wrist joints, the pegs are too soft, and sometimes prone to ripping.

My old ARAH Joes seem so brittle these days; I'd rather have the softer plastic even with the weird effect it has on the wrists. It's heartbreaking looking at my pile of broken thumb, broken crotch figures.
I always called 'em 3.75 inch or 1:18 to avoid accidentally typing 33 /4'
but 4" works for me.
