I'd love to get my hands on a QUARREL, MOONDANCER or RED LASER (especially as I had them as a kid and 'lost' them!). The back story is interesting and what's more, they look good too.
To be honest, I don't think it's too much of a stretch for Hasbro to repaint a 25th Cobra Trooper, whack a new head on and package him as a RED SHADOW... now that would be an original figure for collectors! But for the fact that I don't want to waste troopers I'd have tried a custom by now.

Um, what's your problem? Didn't you read my other posts? Besides, what I said IS relevant to the discussion, because it brings up exactly what we're talking about here: the true foreign variants, which are a part of RAH and therefore not part of this section, or the possibility of repaints of these figures/characters in the 25th line?

Honestly, the "story" behind something like Action Force appeals to me more than G.I. Joe. Joe is very "Rah-rah-America" and, as a Canuck, that gets old fast. Granted that all my Joes growing up had maple leafs and "Forces Canadiens" on the vehicles, which is a degree of flexibility that still impresses me.
But that's why I like the Internationals - COBRA isn't just in the States, and the notion that other countries are fighting back too is just cool.

It's not just that their rare. Some figures are scarce and are impossible to find like the white mortal. I have a few Satans and ninja ku's moc and the quality is very low budget on the packaging, so finding these in mint cond can be difficult.

Well to each his (or her) own. For me, I began collecting Foreign releases because I pretty much completed the entire US run. As of right now some of my favorite and most prized ARAH style figures are mint carded ones from Argentina and the UK. I purchased my first Foreign figures in the late 97' or 98', Moondancer (UK) and caucasion Iceberg (India). After that I've rarely passed on a reasonably priced foreign figure, while many are of poorer quality, some like the Chinese Major Bludd are equal to the US releases (He's a great winter ops Major Bludd figure by the way).
Completed the entire US Run? When did you become a millionare? LOL I just kidding, thats awesome man. |

Sigh. BAN PLEASE! Ugg boots? wtf?
Ahem. Anyway, Yeah, there's just something about the International Joes. I think the Japanese Takara card art is just fantastic. I just bought my first off the Bay and it's on its way, an MOC Funskool Zartan. Just look at this guy. The card art was done by the lowest bidder, obviously. It's all out of proportion, and damned if it isn't scary as hell. Then the figure itself is a really interesting (also scary) variant of Zartan. And yeah, it's something you can get into to make your collection unique and interesting. |

Well, for one, I like the artwork just as much, if not more in some cases, as the domestic versions we get. As for the figures themselves? Not all are A-listers, but neither are all of the figures we got here in America. The uniqueness, as well as adding an international flavor to the Joe team, is a huge part of the attraction - most of us like the Oktober Guard, right? I for one hope that eventually we'll get to see more figures that were released in other countries (particularly the UK's Action Force and others from South America) updated and released for us all to have. Sure, gripe and complain about still not having all of the original 13, or wanting more of those released in '83 thru '87, but I like actually getting new stuff along with the re-releases. It keeps it interesting for me. I mean, who would've thought 6 months ago that we'd have gotten a MASK figure in the Joe line?
Well, that's my two cents. |
