Hello,
Excuse the title, but I couldn't think of any other way to phrase it. Has anyone discussed, theorized, or made a custom of a B.A.T. "out of uniform"? I get why COBRA would dress up a trooper that will keep walking despite much damage; in order to demoralize the opposition. But a B.A.T. would not be constructed with clothes on. Long story short, I'm curious as to what the community thinks on how things are put together under the uniform. I've got a WIP in pieces for a couple years which is kit bashed between the action figure and a Terminator endoskeleton. Maybe I will finally get it together in 2018. So...thoughts? |

That's actually an interesting idea. And the Terminator is probably a great way to go.

Maybe the "naked" C3PO figure could be of use?

I knew I was asking the right guys!
I had completely forgotten about episode 1 C3PO. I can definitely get ideas or parts off of him. But has anyone ever supposed about what lies beneath the clothes? Endoskeleton with wires all over the place? Layers of armor and mother boards? Super articulated ice cream maker? |

I really don't think that they would have exposed joints or endoskeletons directly under the uniform. That would run a high risk of snagging on the uniform, I think. Possibly damaging the mechanisms, or at least forcing Cobra to employ a full-time tailor just to mend damaged uniforms. More likely they would look like a "completed" protocol droid under the uniform, with plates that protect the sensitive bits. *Maybe* a layer of rubber like the early Terminators had.
A T-800 or unfinished C-3PO would be great for an "incomplete" BAT, though. Just not for an "undressed" one, in my opinion.

I used an Ep. I C-3PO head for a custom removable helmet BAT. Never considered what was under the uniform much. Based on the exposed arms, I'd say something closer to a "covered" C-3PO would be closer to the body underneath.

Definitely Armor plating. BATS are only designed for one thing - and that is to create shock and awe on the battlefield. They are designed to be low budget engines of destruction that will not rest until completely destroyed into little itty bitty pieces. Exposed parts even under some kind of Kevlar super rip-stop cloth will not be enough to enable it to achieve its mission.

All you armor guys seem to be overlooking one thing: the large glass window in the front of center mass. I think visible wires and components are consistent with that, particularly since that's what we see behind the glass. To me, that suggests either basic rigid structure (Terminator style), the droid-style bundles and components, or a combination of the two. Certainly not encapsulating armor on areas less vital than the utterly-exposed center of mass.

Strategically placed by mindbender to make sure the victim knew these were not regular soldiers in a different uniform. The glass plate stuff is all for show. Don't you have to hit a BAT from behind to truly disable it? Also their main purpose is to create cover while cobra leadership fled the scene. If they are dispatched to quickly and/or cannot be handled quickly enough - then they would be less useful in creating the much needed diversion to avoid getting clocked in the face by Duke or Flint again.
