Ok so with the new Vipers about to come out and many of us army building them what are we going to do with the Cobra Troopers? Where to they fit together in your collection. One or the other? Both? Who's higher in rank?

In my strange little world:
Troopers = lowest level infantry grunts, dirty trench diggers and hole fillers, practically conscripts, completely expendible. Vipers = slightly higher trained and equipped shock troops, but just about as expendible as troopers, kinda like Cobra's version of Marines. |

I don't think one is higher than the other (at least in my own little world!). I think as Cobra gained more wealth and power they eventually upgraded the common Cobra Trooper's uniform and weapons to that of the Viper. They also were able to to get specialized uniforms and such for the different M.O.S.'s (such as HEAT Viper, Alley Viper, Etc.).
The Vipers do look visually pleasing but I still gotta go for the classic Cobra Trooper! |

I like the idea of the Cobra's as the Cobra Army and the Vipers as the Cobra Marines. I'd put the Cobra Officers right below the Crimson Guards in terms of command.

I see my troops ranked like this.
CGs (highest ranked) Officers Specialized Troops (eels, snow serpents, alley vipers, etc.) Vipers (the marines) Troopers (lowest ranked) |

love 'em both. like others have said, i've always thought of them as sort of the lowest rungs of separate branches of the Cobra ranks. although... i'd imagine, realistically, the Vipers were probably just redesigns that would move some units.

Vipers and Troopers are the same thing to me, but the Viper is now the upgraded field combat uniform. I think the Vipers wear their "trooper" uniforms when they're, say...sitting in the office updating their personnel records. Or in the motorpool conducting maintenance on vehicles. Some ceremonies. Field training exercises. Light infantry missions where being weighed down by heavy body armor is impractical, but helmet and elbow/knee pads are still helpful.
Ground assault would definitely require their Viper equipment config. |
