I have to say I 100% agree with Compulsive.
I think all the people who think this is some evil plot by Hasbro or Wal-mart are just kidding themselves and having a knee-jerk reaction without considering all the facts.
In the end, I also believe that Hasbro will charge the lowest price they can while still maintaining a decent profit. It's in their best interest and they know that. The lower they can get the price the more they will sell, and Hasbro is focused on volume. They are not like Sideshow or somebody who would like to sell a smaller number of figures at a higher price.
That's just fair. I want Hasbro to make a profit... that's how these things continue to get made. If their costs have increased significantly (and it's obvious that they have, given the price of oil which affects both their raw materials and transportation costs) then they need to adjust their price to a level that makes sense.
This is all about finding the right balance of cost vs price for a particular product and audience. I really don't think many people here that are fighting this have any idea what's involved in doing that. Take it too far in one direction, you sales tank due to high prices and you need to stop. Take it too far in the other direction, and you aren't making enough profit to keep the product line worthwhile and you have to stop. Hasbro has guys that are experts at this and have been doing it a long time successfully. I always find it amusing when a bunch of posters on a message board with no experience in the field try to tell Hasbro they know better. Let alone a bunch of names on a petition.
I'm just glad I'm not buying much Star Wars these days... I can't imagine what they're going to cost given that they also have to write George a check for the license (which I suspect is HUGE).

This "silly" (in other words, thoughtful, logical, rational, and informed) post brought to you by Compulsive Collector.

I don't think it is an evil plot by Hasbro. Hell I don't even think it is an evil plot by WM it's just a way for WM to make a few more dollars. Since their have been Wal-marts I don't remember a time when any figure I collect was ever cheaper at K-mart or TRU, sometimes Target is cheaper than WM but not often.
The K-Mart near me (Hermitage, PA) even lowered their price from 6.29 to 5.99. I also agree I have no experience in making, marketing, or selling toys, but I do have a lot of experience buying them and an increase like this by one retail store and no other retail stores as of today, seems kinda funny its been almost 2 weeks since the price increase at WM.
Why have there not been increases in the comic 2 packs you get 2 figures all the weapons and stands both filecards and a comic for a little less than 5.00 a figure. Hell I have seen no increase in Transformers or Star Wars figures all Hasbro product yet all figures I mentioned are not flying off the pegs at WM except Joe single card figures.
So these reasons are the reasons I believe the price raise was unfair at WM. Obviously this is only my opinion and after almost 2 weeks after the WM price increase Target, TRU, and K-mart could raise their prices tomorrow, but is it because of them just following WM lead or maybe we will have definitive proof that Hasbro has raised prices to WM. I never claimed to be an insider that I knew for a fact why the price increases happened I just wanted people to take 5 minutes out of their day to fill out an online complaint form to WM to see if 15,000 plus people could change Wal-Marts mind.
At the end of the day whatever differences anybody has here we are all G.I. Joe fanatics and I was only trying to do something that might help, save us money because no matter how much you make, money in your pocket is better then in somebody elses.
