The Gung Ho's are real too.. I have all three versions of the wave 1 & wave 4 Gung Ho. One with golden anchor on hat (box set), one with anchor but no color(single carded) & one with no anchor on the hat (current version)

I just found a box set that has Gun Ho with a fixed crotch and a painted anchor. The Snake Eyes also has a fixed crotch.

I think you are right, the printed zartan color change on card was made the same day as the non printed on card color change..which we found out in a past thread about the numbers on the back...so it was kind of a mid day fix. Im pretty sure the sticker is like the 5th or 6th "variation" or zartans we have seen... Zartan = too many changes to collect for me. I haven't haven't seen a non color changing zartan...but i have heard some chatter about him... if a picture could show proof of non changing zartan this would be nice to see...take a pic with a thermometer .lol. Maybe in 5 years yojoe.com will have a breakdown of all 5 or 6 "variants Last edited by young1nj; 04-15-2008 at 04:13 AM.. |

Zartan does indeed have 3 variation. In order of appearance it went Printed logo, no logo, sticker logo and back to printed logo. Before the re-release of the printed logo it was the "rare" one to find. I have no clue what variant is the "rare" one. Zartan's color changing face is much like the Officer's eyebrows. You can line up 10 different figs and they will vary from a "light-non existant" to a "whoa, this guy's going to blow" green. Same with the officer eyebrows.
A variant is a concious change in mid production. The classic Star Wars line is a perfect example in variation from one figure to another. An error is something that happens during production and either slips through quality control or is allowed through for whatever reason. The 2005 Valor vs Venom w7 Viper being overly produced with and without a cobra logo is a great example. Normally, it's when the availablity of an error reaches a certain quantity is when it's considered "legitimate" by the community overall. Minimally produced errors are fun to laugh at they pop up (or scoff at when you've been dying for that figure and you find the error) but don't go beyond that overall. Black gun Trooper is a great example of this. As much as I love this line and Joe overall, this particular line has had sub par quality control and little errors have surfaced on all the boards. When collecting became really popular "variants" were conciously included into toy lines to boost sales and collector hype. The examples of this are Black Wolf SE and Shark tatoo Shipwreck. The excepted, yet still slightly "grey area," is the yellow Stalker where they began production, didn't like the color but approved it and excepted it as a purposely produced variant. Overall, it's up to you how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. |

Shogi hit the nail on the head. There are REAL variants, and then there are those that God & Country call variants because they're variations in every sense of the word..but they really are just QC issues.
There's a ton of "Variants" - Trooper with unpainted rifle - Cobra Commander w/ Dark Blue Hood - Zartan "Non Color Change" (Many think that this refers to the figure, but it doesn't. It refers to the card that doesn't have the color change blurb on it...if there is a non color change zartan figure, I have yet to see it). Again, these can be explained rather simply: QC issues. Gung Ho was obviously left overs from the 5 pack release, The Troopers without painted rifles obviously skipped QC, etc. |
