http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gi_joe#25th_Anniversary
Does anyone know who wrote the 25th Anniversary entry? It seems VERY negative toward the line. I'm thinking we should spruce it up a little. Quote:
2007 marked the 25th anniversary of the "Real American Hero" line. To commemorate the event, Hasbro released a "25th Anniversary" collection of newly sculpted 4" figures based on the line's best known and most popular characters. The 25th Anniversary figures are more display-orientated figurines rather than real playable action figurines. They omit the classic O-ring construction which was a unique trademark( 1982 and up ). Intensive re-use of tooling made many characters share entire body and are differentiated by different heads, colors and weapons. Noticeable inaccuracies are frequent. While the line is intended on bringing back the original characters, liberties were taken all along the design. Storm Shadow has yellow flip-flops and gold embroidery on his white clothes, for example, while random weapons are assigned to the characters. Heavy use of painted soft plastic does have quality issues ( low end of heads often unpainted or smeared )as well as frequent mismatching leg halves. Majority of figures cannot sit or fit inside classic vehicles, nor will they fit on classic foot pegs from any G.I.Joe vehicle. "Star-Wars-ish" thinner hexagonal holes replace former round heel holes and backpack hole. These figures are from a certain distance extremely realistic due to hidden joints and improved proportions. They are excellent for dynamic pose display. Due to the popularity of the line, Hasbro has continued it into 2008.

It is also extremely poorly written. Somebody ought to clean it up, but I stay away from writing Wiki entries.

Oh, I just tend to think it's not worth the trouble. I write, edit, and teach English for a living, which makes me unlikely to do it for free, especially at a place free of any real editorial oversight or authority. Trying to straighten out a Wiki entry is a sure fire ticket to frustration.

But compared to the original ARAH year, not as many re-used parts...right?

This is entirely true with some extend. However, writer tense to lean toward the negative side. There are many good things and improvement that happen for 25th anniversary that was not mentioned.
In my opinion, classic O-ring construction is a major flaw in the prior designed. Rubber band often brakes or worn-out. There were many incidents reported the rubber band broke even though the figures never had been opened for playing, and this caused the figures loose its values. I believe this is the major improvement for the GI JOE line. With the price, the new line gives a lot of realistic details, and articulations – what are you expecting from $5.99 toys, or perhaps I do not set a really high bar. Unless you are willing to pay retail price at $9.99 for that scale (3.75”) – Yes! I am not talking about Evilbay price, and I think Hasbro will have many options for you. I am really enjoy and embrace 25th anniversary line. I hope all of you too. This is something Hasbro done correctly for a very long time(since 1980s.) Honestly I am very excited looking forward to the new future waves. I hope they are continuing re-designing, and releasing all the figures from 1982 – 1988. I am not working for HASBRO nor owning any shares from the company. This is just my personal opinion. |

One more inaccuracy, The writter seems to think O-ring Construction was unique to GI Joe. Hmm, guess he never saw Dukes of Hazard or Robotech figures

Those are my gripes about the current passage about the 25th line. If someone would like to write something more apropriate, factual, and non-sided...I'd be happy to post it there for you. I'm just not a very good writer. |
