I see some of the 25th anniversary figures being sold on ebay with a icon on the packaging that says Cartoon Series. I've been googling that and I keep getting information on the actual cartoons. I went over to Yojoe.com and see all the figures listed but even when scrolling through the seperate years there's no clear marking for which figures make up the complete Cartoon Series. Does anyone know where I can get a list of all those? I'd like to get back into collecting and that seems like a collection I'd like to own.

There is only a difference between the cards. Cartoon series and 25th logos on the cards just means some are 25th anniversery figures which was the first 5 waves and the rest are what we call Modern Era or Classics. Some say Cartoon Series or Comic Book series which means those waves of Cards are not Truely 25th Anniversey Cards lol Hope that kinda of helps .

2007 was the 25th anniversary, and for awhile Hasbro was putting out the cards with a 25th anniversary logo in the top right corner. Somewhere along the way, they changed to having different logos. The new logos reflected where the toy came from. . .like wave 9 Ninja Ku has an "international series" logo. Others will have a "cartoon series" logo or a "comic book" logo. Collectively, its all modern era. And even some (not all) figures from the early waves that had the 25th Anniversary logo were re-released later with the comic or cartoon logos (Flint, Flash, Stalker, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, etc.).
If you want to get back into collecting it, and you go the ebay route, most people will probably refer to all of it as "25th" -- even though technically 25th only applies to the early waves. Clear as mud? As far as a checklist (without all the pictures), just google gi joe 25th checklist the 5th result was pretty good. |

Technically, there really is NO distinction between "cartoon" and "comic" series of figures. They were all marketed as "GI Joe".
However, when Hasbro decided to phase out the "25th Anniversary" markings in mid-2008, the had some "empty space" on the packaging, so they put on comic or cartoon callouts to help promote the comic packs and DVD packs available at retail. In many cases (especially for 25th card repacks) there was no rhyme or reason to the callouts. A good example is the Flint (wave 1 25th) who saw a repack in the fall of 2008 on a card promoting the cartoon, yet never appeared in the cartoon in the colors he was released with. Similarly, you have characters like Roadblock and Firefly who featured comic callouts but were just as heavily featured in the cartoon. And the Viper saw release on BOTH cardbacks So there really is no complete list as opinions will vary what exactly constitutes a "cartoon" vs "comic" figure. But here is a list of figures/packages that WERE expressly designed after events/looks from the cartoon series: All 5 DVD battle packs GI Joe 5 pack 2 (Hawk, Flint, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck, Snake eyes) Cobra 5 pack 2 (Cobra Commander, Zartan, Baroness, Viper, Storm Shadow) Senior Ranking Officers Cobra set 1 (CC, Cobra Trooper and Officer) Lt. Falcon vs Nemesis Immortal comic pack Wild Bill vs Scrap Iron comic pack Wave 13: Dreadnok Torch Wave 12: Cobra Diver, Dreadnok Ripper, Tripwire Wave 11: Cobra Flint Wave 8: Baroness (blue outfit), Cobra Commander (with Crystals), Roadblock (debatable) Wave 7: Jet Pack Duke There are other figures with cartoon callouts, but most tend to fall into the "they basically looked the same in both media" area.
