Stepping back from the buzz of newer releases, I'm actually going to go with a few peg warmers:
RoC Destro PP Baroness Ninja Mercenary Storm Shadow RoC Destro and PP Baroness are both, to my mind, the best-ever versions of these two characters. What's great about them is they evoke some of the things we actually liked about Rise of Cobra, while still holding true to the characters' original characteristics. And I know that the articulation on the Baroness is a little rough, but with that sculpted coat, she also puts up some badass poses that others don't. Turned to one side with her right arm holding an Uzi and bearing the Cobra insignia, she has a dangerous swagger to her. Also, props to RoC Ninja Mercenary Storm Shadow. When I saw the early photos of Storm Shadow's new outfit in the movie, I was appalled. But in plastic, the coat totally translated into a great and memorable figure. I find it odd to be saying so, given how little shelf time I have given to the RoC figures I've acquired over the year (and since sold), but I really think that though we may be tired of seeing these figures on the shelves, that's more our frustration with the glut brought on by overly ambitious retail outlets and not by the figures themselves. In a couple of years, these figures will still look just as good as they do now. Timeless, classic. |

My favorite release for 2009 is Ripcord (Assault on Cobra Island Altitude). The only thing that could have made him better is if he came single carded in 25th anniversary packaging.
Runners up would be the Serpent Armor & TRU Firefly. |

Reading all of these picks makes me realize how old I am- I don't recognize any of it!!
I skipped 2009 completely- guess my "Best for 2009" would be ROC Shipwreck and ROC para viper- those were the only "new" type figures I bought all year. To me, the best thing for 2009 was the Sideshow releases. ARAH TILL DEATH!!

Honorable mention should go to Wild Weasel. Hasbro did a great job on him and the attention to detail is wonderful. One of the most over-looked figures in the 25th line IMO

I'm still looking for Kamakura. My favorite Joe item of 2009 was easily the Cobra Island sets. I hope for nothing more than to see a similar scheme for boxed sets in 2010. I'm thinking vintage Toxo-, Hydro-, and Techno-Vipers here. And Jinx for the Joes set (please).
