The Dragonhawk XH-1 from G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra is one of the best movie vehicles in my opinion. It's the newest attack helicopter for the Joes, the last time we got one was with the RHINO originally in 2005. Before that was the Night Attack Chopper, a winged beast which was one of the best vehicles made from the "new sculpt" lines of 2002-06.
So which do you like more, the Dragonhawk or NAC? To me, the Dragonhawk is cool but is more comparable to the chopper from the RHINO. Against the NAC, the NAC wins, the Dragonhawk merely doesn't stand up to it at all. The NAC is big, hefty, can store 6 figures inside, and was a vehicle well worth the $30-35 MSRP at the time. Much more of a worthy purchase than let's say the Night Raven. Even compared to the Dragonhawk it's a worthy purchase. The Dragonhawk is too small for the $25 price tag. It should be $20 at most. I paid $30 for mine and I did so because it was rare around these parts, I figured the $30 alright considering I wouldn't have to waste further gas searching for the damned thing. Don't get me wrong, I like the Dragonhawk, I just think it's a bit underwhelming. Great vehicle, though let's face it, it ought to be bigger. I don't anyone expects joe vehicles to be 1/18 scale, but as fans we expect something bigger than what we got with the Dragonhawk. I don't even mind if it only seated 1 person, it should just be bigger! The hidden launchers are excellent, the molded detail is great and the stickers are great too. It's just a small vehicle. Fans usually talk about wanting a modernized vehicle for their Joe forces. The NAC fits the bill. Is it a step up from the Dragonfly? YES! On steroids! As a matter of fact, I'm surprised Hasbro didn't reissue it for the ROC line. Awesome vehicle. Sturdy too! It feels like a colossal brick of awesome compared to the Dragonhawk. Chock full of win with wings. Opening wings, with missle launchers and a gimmick that works well. GIMMICKS I should say. Even has a rescue rope and winch! It reminds me of the Joes wanting to combine the Tomahawk and Dragonfly or something in between with stealth and heavy artillery. It looks like it could decimate both the Dragonfly and Dragonhawk. It looks like it could be an agile opponent for the Mamba. It stares down the FANGs and they die looking at it. Not only is it arguably the best helicopter for the Joes made within the past 10 years, one of the best "new sculpt" vehicles, but IMHO, it's one of the best Joe vehicles ever made, PERIOD. It's a shame that a lot of collectors didn't know about this thing back in 2002-03, it's definitely worthy of adding to your collections! I remember seeing the 1st images from Toy Fair and going "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING!? ALL I KNOW IS THAT I WANT IT AND WHOMEVER DESIGNED THIS AT HASBRO RULES!". Does it prevent me from wanting a Dragonfly and Tomahawk reissue for Modern Era figures? HELL NO! Yet I can't see a G.I. Joe helicopter collection without the NAC. Yet I wanted to know what all of you thought. NAC VS Dragonhawk, DISCUSS! |

How can you compare the two? Just the fact that the NAC is like a flying APC makes it no comparison.
I tell you what, I'd rather have the NAC then the TH Black Hawk, but these are the days we live in.

I want to like the Dragonhawk but there are somethings that kill it for me.
1-WAY to small 2-bulky 3-proportions are way off 4-Price Point When this vehicle was first listed and we got pics, I was excited.....then I saw the final piece. It does very little for me and I despise the fact that my Joes have inferior vehicles. I mean come on....look at SW! Hasbro PAYS to have that property and one would think that the property they own out right would see some level of dedication that SW gets. They can make a 3 foot robot, why cant they produce a chopper close to scale? The NAC was sweet; large chopper, pop up missile launchers, held more than 1 figure and was built to last. It did have some issues like the funky rotor blades but it was big. I sold mine back in 04 and I regretted it for quite a while. I did get another one a few months back and I love it; this one stays in the collection! I know what Hasbro is capable of and I want to see it. Give us something to go ape shit over and fire up the collecting community. The BMF did that for SW so I know they can do it for Joe. |

The NAC, not doubt. That beast is second only to the Tomahawk IMO. The Dragonhawk colors are bad, it's not big enough to be a $25 vehicle, and it's not even in the same league as the better GI Joe Choppers (Dragonfly, Tomahawk, NAC). I do not intend to buy it. I've already passed on it many times.

Night Attack Chopper gets me vote. I never got it but I did get the Cobra Crimson Command Chopper which was basically a repaint and came with Tomax & Xamot. I never saw the green version in the stores, I always saw the desert repaint which never caught my intrest. When I saw it repainted again as the Crimson Command Chopper I was all over it. I agree that it was one of the best vehicles released during the "new sculpt" era.

The NAC ROCKS!!! It's among my favorite Joe vehicles. My only regret is that I didn't buy more of them when I saw them on clearance. The one in my collection was bought at retail price, and there are NO COMPLAINTS! If you Tankers want a great chopper for your Joes, it trumps the TH Blackhawk, IMO.
Two words: Get...It.

NAC, easily. I really don't have a use for mine anymore having moved over to proper 1:18 vehicles, but it's easily at the top of a VERY small list of vehicles from the new sculpt era worth having.
It just shits all over the Dragonhawk. |
