I use to get Toyfare every single month. But, there is no point now. Most of it is stuff you have already seen online and it is a lot smaller. Back in the late 90's is when it was at its peak in my opinion. I loved reading it monthly. Makes me sad its not worth it now.

I keep reading it only because I've been doing so since the first Toyfare special so many years ago. like it's sister magazine, Wizard, it really has turned into crap over the past few years... maybe next month will be my time to let it go

Even in the 90's I thought Toyfare was a piece of junk. Other than the TTT, there was nothing of use to me that Tomart and Lee's didn't do a lot better. I still have a lot of Tomart's and Lee's picture guides from various lesser toylines in a folder, but Toyfare's were always filled with bad jokes and even worse pictures.

I thought it was nifty seeing the words "Pusuit of Cobra" in a Hasbro ad, it sort of makes it feel official.
The magazine format was pretty bad. It's been pretty decent for covering geek culture for years, but this seemed like an attempt to strealine and "mainstream" it. The humor was quite original to me 10 years ago, but it's become almost nonexistent. I probably have every issue, and I've always liked their fun approach more than Lee's and Tomart's more investment centered features(They've been running interesting articles recently though) It's a shame really. |
