I personally didnt buy the Night Raven because of the hole pump-gun look it has. If it had been just a plane with no lights and sounds and no firing missiles, I would have bought it no matter what the cost.
As for the stupid missiles that come with every fgure, I think they are crap and un-called for. I like for my toys to all be in scale and look some what real. So yeah if they had left out garbage like that and the price was better I would have probably spent more. Does Hasbro care? I think the Cobra Hovercraft answers that, they are so cheap they built a helicopter and didnt put a propellor on it. I hope it was worth it Hasbro, because you know you can go to any store right now and the over priced helicoptr with no propellor on it is sitting on the shelves in stacks. |

TRU has lowered Joes to $5 on a few occasions in sales. It was not a price drop for a pro-longed period like the other stores, but they were certainly $5. It's where I got CC and paid the $5 price.

But the figures are in scale and somewhat realistic. THere's nothing that forces you to use the missile launchers. Just throw 'em away or throw 'em in a big box. The figures aren't dependant on them in any way, shape or form (the vehicles yes, but for the most part the missile launchers aren't that bad in most of the vehicles). So they are just extras in the packages. MOC collectors, yeah, the missile launchers would be annoyed. If I was a MOC Collector I'd be more concerned with some of the stupid poses some of the characters are in (Red Fang Ninja, I'm looking at you).

Personally, I think the ROC Night Raven is pure garbage! What a waste of potential hot selling jets close to the 25th Target exclusive Conquest and Rattler...
From the review of thoes that own one, it sure seems like it does not worth $40 bucks! I didn't even bother picking it up when it went on sale for $25 bucks. A shelf warmer indeed!! |

Devil's advocate; remove costly features to lower cost, kid's no longer want the toys because they aren't cool enough.
The budget joes; True Heroes, Freedom Force, and the Corps apear to sit around just as much as the Night Raven to me. |

And the CORPS! vehicles, talk about shelf warmers. I don't think I've ever seen one of those sold. Everytime I go back to a store, it's the same supply. Same with the figures and those 5 dollar action packs.

The problem was: 1- it didn't appeal to the collector market 2- the price point was too high for the kid market Although I wonder if XMas will have any affect on the Night Raven. If it'll sell more now with XMas coming. Parents have traditionally been willing to spend on bigger cost items at XMas and birthdays. I didn't get one personally. Didn't like it, but then I never liked the original either.

I had a question relating to the topic, I grew up in Hawaii (Army Brat) and I remember individual Joe figures costing 5 dollars back in the late 80's and early 90's. In retrospect I realize that 5 bucks might have been higher than what many of you were paying on the mainland. I was curious as to how much y'all paid for a Joe back then?
I also have to say that the 8 buck price doesent bother me because I chalk it up to inflation from the 5 bucks that I used to pay, plus we get more articulated figures. |

We have a fair number of folks here that like to point out the True Heroes F-22/A-10/F-18 as examples of how Hasbro "should" be able to do something. But is that a smart move from a business sense? I never have trouble finding any of the "bargain Joe" stuff...it doesn't exactly seem to fly off the shelves at a breakneck pace. In fact, about the only people I've ever seen/heard of even looking at it are...Joe collectors looking for compatible stuff. If True Heroes sells 4 Raptors at $24.99 (or whatever) and Hasbro sells 4 Night Ravens at $39.99...who's come out ahead in the deal? Troy: I admit, I bought that little blue hovercraft thing from the Corps, because it looked neat and Joe-patible (it is). Almost bought that snap-kit glider too, before they actually came out with the 25th/ME CLAW (such as it was). |

Particularly since the Y-Wing for Clone-Wars seems nigh-impossible to find. |
